need new computer what should I look for

hi everyone with this con happening I need a better computer for me and my son so he can do school work. what should I look for in a computer have no clue what to look for any advice will help. thanks everyone on this site and stay safe

Is basically a case of what do you need it for.
Any software you have to run, will come with minimum running requirements.
Are you looking at buying a ready built PC from say Dell or HP?
