he National Basketball Association (NBA) has signed an 11-year merchandising deal with adidas, ensuring that they are the official brand of the organization through to 2017.
The deal includes adidas branding availability on all playing uniforms and all official apparel and also includes the rights to sell footwear in the the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Asia.
The company will be responsible for all of the design, manufacture, and market products for NBA apparel and adidas Group CEO Herbert Hainer said the decision was an effort to try and increase adidas as a brand.
"We as a Group made this strategic decision, which we believe will significantly help us to immediately increase the visibility of adidas as a sport performance brand in the U.S.," he said.
President of adidas, Erich Stamminger added that the deal was also part of a ploy to increase the recognition and popularity of basketball on a global scale.
"This partnership deepens our relationship with a sports league that continues to soar in global popularity," he said.
"The adidas brand is recognised for its excellence in sports heritage and performance on a global basis."
