My thoughts on teams losing players for Origin.

I have no problem with teams losing players for Origin. It's a small amount of payback for the teams who rort the salary cap so well that they miraculously fit up to a dozen rep players into their cap when everyone else can't.

This is the saddest thread I have ever looked at. Everyone has their own opinions or views on certain subjects but this is pretty poor if you ask me. Tell this to Parramatta supporters of the 80s or Raiders supporters of the early 90s. Unbelievable, Katrina

What has Parra of the 80's got to do with it. They had no salary cap to abide by. They were legitimately allowed to spend 50 billion on players if they wished. However it's pretty poor form for teams to insult us by pretending that they and they alone are able to fit 10 million worth of players into a cap and that guys are staying and playing virtually for petrol money after turning down huge contracts offered elsewhere. I thought the idea of a points system was a good one. All players are valued at a certain number of points depending on how many first grade games, rep games etc they have played. You can pay whatever you want for players but you can't have a team valued at over a certain number of points. That way we don't have teams pretending that they have rep players on the NRL minimum wage just because they don't want to leave their home area like a certain team has claimed. It also eliminates any cheating because the NRL sets the number of points for each player set on a consistent criteria.

Yes, well your knowledge of the game does seem rather limited. I don't think that saying "wow" or "this is sad" is much of a rebuttal to be honest. Anyway, enjoy the game because that's the main thing.

I agree on the your main point that it is almost an insult to complain and I liked what Ricky Stuart said that if he had 5-6 origin players in his team he wouldn't be complaining that they are missing for a few games.

In fact what you don't really hear is the Broncos / Storm and most teams players will only technically be unavailable for 1 game as their byes fall on origin week.

I have no sympathy for them.

True, the bye rounds means that they will only be without key players for a single round. A small price to pay for the very few teams with an accountant that can fit a dozen rep players in their squad within the salary cap which is a feat that nobody else seems capable of doing.

I worked it out its Penrith who have 12 rep players

All played S.O.O
Jamie Soward
Peter Wallace
Josh Mansour
Matt Moylan

Internationals
Peta Hiku
Segeyaro

All played City Country
Reagan Campbell-Gillard
Bryce Cartwright
Leilani Latu
Josh Mansour
Tyrone Peachey
Isaah Yeo

Was referring to north of the border who seem to have a stack of rep players who are all playing for petrol money apparently. I remember when their coach was at St.George and rorted Gasnier in his cap. He said that Gasnier was on a 4 year contract but was making virtually nothing for the first 2 years with a huge amount for the last two. But of course he retired after two and was never going to play those last two so they had him for two years in the cap valued at almost nothing. I never really classify city/country when calculating rep players because Queensland and N.Z don't have a similar fixture so it kind of artificially classes players from N.S.W as rep players who really aren't.
