Hi guys, hoping someone can help me here.

My brother passed away 10 years ago and we were best mates. Im getting a new tattoo done and thought I might get an extra one for my brother while I am at it.

I looked up some Chinese characters but I want to make sure this translates to what I think it does.

Does anyone here read Chinese or have family or friends who could confirm what these characters mean?

Please no time wasters here as this means alot to me as I am sure you will all understand.

Thanks heaps in advance!

(both images the same characters just slightly different)

Have to ask if ya can't speak/read/translate chinese why would you want it tattoo'd on yourself?

I have plenty of tattoos some for similar reasons as you are getting yours done, what's wrong with english?

GL either way

I'm not a Chinese but I understand Chinese.
(Actually my country also use chinese chracter a little not verbal language as Chinese though.)

Those 2 images looks different to non-chinese character using people.

But both of them have same meaning.
(You might be able to understand those as different FONT type.)

The Problem is Left Character means "younger brother"
ChineseYoungerBrother.jpg

Right Charactoer means "Elder Brother"
ChineseOlderBrother.jpg

Those sequence used in ancient era.

In other words, those are reverse sequence.
(And people doesn't use like that reverse sequence anymore.
At least in my country. And it might be the same as China.)

This phrase has correct sequence.

I just like the look of Chinese characters. I like Egyptian too but I couldn't find what I was after.

I also like that 1 character can mean a whole word and rather than spelling out "Younger Brother" and "Older Brother", I can just use 2 symbols/characters.

Hi mate.
I am not a Chinese myself but I just got back from studying in China for 2 years and a bit.
Just want to let you know that what nbacardDOTnet wrote is absolutely correct.
"兄" this one means the elder brother, "弟" this one means the younger.
"兄弟" when it's used together it means "brothers".
Hope it helped.
All the best.

Mate, you are a legend, thanks so much!

I am getting this done on Saturday morning and will post a pic sometime over the weekend

Yup I can assure you the phrase posted is correct as I can read Chinese.
Some just like the look of Chinese characters, like Marcus Camby (The tats on him doesn't make any sense)

I'm not making a joke out of this as I've got Tatts dedicated to family members (brothers to be specific), but I gotta say;

Whatever you do, don't do a Shawn Marion. ;)

What he thought was going to be 'The Matrix', turned out to be;

é” = Demon, evil spirits; magic power.

é³¥ = Bird.

樟 = Camphor (a plant where its chemical exact is used for making moth balls).

I'm not sure there might be the same phrase of Camby's Tatoo as Chinese.

But there is no combination word like that. lol

Meaning is "diligent people" though. => 勉族

Another impressive tatoo is Iverson's.

I have not been sure, that means "center of the world" or "royalty" ? lol

中心 or 忠 ? lol

Yeah that's part of the reason I started this thread mate. I was pretty sure it was what I thought it was, but just wanted to make absolutely sure.

I appreciate all the responses guys. I'm getting it done on Saturday morning and I will upload a couple of pics sometime over the weekend.

Not a great pic, but here we go.....

(the tatt was fine, but my leg didnt respond well to being shaved lol)

You should've seen my arm, already burnt up by the Hawaiian Sun! :D

Ahhh the memories. Tell me if you actually enjoyed the pain or I'm just a sicko. Hurts nowhere near what people cry about for the most part.

Looks good man. Should heal up nicely. Good stuff.

Yeah I didn't mind the pain at all mate. It's more a burn than a pain as such, just kinda like sunburn.

I also got my surname down my arm. Got a little video here, not great quality, but you get the idea!

I'll post pics in a couple weeks when they are all healed up.

Much better pic here.....

Also a pic of my surname tatt.....

And my wife's tribute tatt to her best friend who has passed away (looks awesome IMO).....
