Ebay is so unfair the sellers

I am starting to understand why so many sellers have complained that ebay is over-protective on buyers. I sold an Al Jefferson Exquisite Patch Auto last month and the buyer had filed a dispute without notifying me because he had not received the card and paypal automatically deducted money from my account. I had provided the tracking number to the buyer and I checked it on both the Canada and U.S postal website and both showed that the item is still in the process of shipping. Clearly, either the post office or the customs have the card right now and it's so unfair that the buyer is trying to hold me accountable even though it is on its way. I know it has been a month but I don't think I should be responsible for the postal office's slow service. And paypal deducted my money automatically without even listening to my side of the story. This is totally unfair!!

I can't understand how they got these new rules in place and sellers haven't left in droves. Just goes to show the monopoly eBay has and how it uses it to screw over both sellers and buyers at times.

I'd be on the phone day and night to paypal about that till they stopped answering their phones

totally understand that, I buy all the time too and I want to be protected like others. But I don't understand how ebay can just side with the buyer when they haven't even investigated the situation or even looked at the hard-proof evidence that I have on hand.

Hard to side either way. I sell and buy on ebay. Had bad experiences both ways. You win some and you lose some.

I find it unusal that they sided with the buyer if you have a tracking number. I send everything registered, postage may seem steep, but it protects me. Maybe a phone call to paypal to further investigate wouldn't hurt.

Well I think the complaint is unreasonable considering you have posted it etc..

If it was me I would only fail a complaint if you didn't post or did not bother to respond to my emails questioning what is up.

However it appears that you tried to communicate and resolve the issue, so I can understand how you feel. It should be wrong of eBay to deduct money form your paypal account, unless there is definitive proove.

On the other side of the coin, I can see why the buyer did this. It is because eBay has a LIMITED TIME that you can make a complaint. They need a better system like 1) sure file a complaint but that is all stage 1 should be. This complaint should be opened and investigated by eBay until it is resolved. They assume it wil be resolved in 2weeks and it automatically closes.

To conclude I dont blame the seller or the buyer, but rather eBays stupid rules that force buyers to choose this path as they have no other choice any more.

No one has claimed against me on paypal ever but I had claimed a few times which resulted in many interesting sutuation. Either I get the cards late or paypal refunded the money back to me... Either way, Paypal didnt give my money back straightaway without having the side of the seller...

I find it hard to believe that ebay/paypal has done this to you. But if so, you should get in touch with paypal coz they have the no right of taking money away from you without you knowing it... Give us an update of this situation coz it may help the community in the future... :)

they did notice me.... i received a email after they withdrew the money from my paypal. I don't really know how the policy works since it's my first time encountering this problem, my roommate told me about her unfair treatment from ebay before and I was hoping that I would never have to deal with this problem. Good thing I required the buyer to purchase insurance or else I wouldn't have any proof of shipping to fight with paypal.

First time I heard of this notification after taking the money out of someone's acct. Its a very unfair treatment.... Goodluck to you... Hope you get your money back or at least the card back...

that's very strange indeed. Usually they give you 10 days to respond once a dispute has been excalated, before issuing a refund. I have gone through a TONNE of disputes and this has always been the way. Very weird they took it out straight away. I will say for the record the ones I've filed are from sellers who never planned on shipping my item, or who are just giving you the run around. If the seller communicated properly I'm usually a lot more understanding.

Good luck getting it resolved

Thank you, now it all depends on whether the post office can figure out where the item is and when it will arrive. And even then, I will have to count on the buyer to close the case when he receives the item in order to get my money back. I have been told that it shouldn't be a problem since I have the tracking number and record to prove that I have sent the item, but don't know how long it will take to get my money back. Plus, if the buyer would file a dispute without even notifying me that he would do so, most likely he would leave me a negative feedback. Sigh!!

Easy solution, soon as the buyer pays, withdraw the funds from your account. Send everything registered, that way if someone tries to screw yo, there are no finds to be recovered.

won't work for me 'cause my bank account is registered on paypal, and even if there's no money in paypal, they can still withdraw money from my bank account.

the buyer finally received the card today, the case was closed and ebay refunded the money back into my account...... hope this won't happen again.

Unless their agreement includes a direct debit authority they aren't legally allowed to withdraw from your bank account...
