Attention all those Sharks supporters who complain that there are never any signed cards ofpast Cronulla players. Here is your chance to get a card signed by Terry Hughes or one signed by Barry Russell. As any dedicated Sharks supporter will tell you, Terry Hughes was one of the original players when Cronulla entered the competition in 1967 and he won the first ever Rothmans medal in 1968. Barry Russell won his Rothmans medal in 1988.

Both former players will be attending the Collectormania Toy & Hobby Fair at Penrith Panthers Pavilion Mulgoa Rd Penrith on 15 October 2017.

Les, will you be releasing any cards of them, if so will these cards be numbered like the last ones and could I please have set number 36.

Yes there will be cards. Have a look under the Card Shows forum for Collectormania Fair 15 October. I have posted some pics. Sorry the numbers only go up 25. Les

Les, what numbers are available, and do you have a promo set like the last ones.

I would like to thank all the Cronulla Sharks supporters that turned up to the card fair. NOT. Some of you were easy to identify because you wore your Sharks gear. You showed your true colours. Not one of you bought any of the special cards produced for the show and only two or three of you had anything signed by Terry Hughes or Barry Russell. I really feel sorry for the two former Sharks players who made the effort to be there but the so called "Supporters" did not reciprocate.

Hey mate,
I would of loved to be there in the afternoon and met both men again..but due to
Family, financial and work commitments I was not. (Met them a few times with the old boys )
I do recall speaking to you, about the prices of the cards and timings, and Had to decline on the cards due to a budget constraint.
Can’t speak for Many other shark fans who were there, but I do recall a few did have the same issues, as myself.

Honestly I think it was bad timing. If it was earlier, I could of stayed.

I am very much in the same boat as @Croz I was there in the morning but due to family commitment I could not stay for the signing which in itself was a bit disappointing as I would of liked to have been there.

I do understand that not everyone could afford the cards and I do understand that many people had no idea who the players were. What I do find disappointing is that people who class themselves as Sharks fans had no idea who the two players were. I know that the Sharks have had many players over the years that were Neville Nobodies, same as every other club, but when you consider that both players won the Rothmans medal, which was a very prestigious award before the Dally M took over, it does make you wonder what sort of supporters they are.

In regard to the time the players attend, the show is at their mercy. 12.00 is the standard time for players but Terry Hughes had a late commitment and advised he could not be there until 2.30. He actually got there at 1.15.

Getting players to attend these shows is a difficult task. Current players generally are not interested unless it relates to third party sponsorship. Recently retired players are in high demand and their managers demand obscene appearance fees. These fees would require greater card numbers and substantial higher prices, well over $100 a card.

It is a fine balancing act and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

But the most disappointing aspect is so called "supporters" not even bothering to get an autograph from a former player from the club they support, even it was only on a card with the Sharks logo.

Everyone has commitments and family always comes first. I am not critical of you or anyone else that was unable to stay. However, I am critical of those that stayed and showed no interest in the players. As I mentioned above 12.00 has always been a standard time for players to attend these signing. It is very rare that they will attend earlier. I do recall a show in Newcastle where a couple current Knights players agreed to attend but the show clashed with a home game and they arrived at 9.00, well before many attendees arrived, and were gone by 10.00. Many fans were unhappy, to put it mildly, but there was nothing that could be done.

As I said above, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Agree it is hard to get these guys to attend a function.

Come along to my Trivia night we have five ex players from the 1960's through to the 1980's, they will be telling stories, they will be sitting at various tables so everyone will get to socialise with them. They will be happy to sign things and there will be special cards available.

I have been lucky to work with a nrl club and with some of the old boys. They love telling some of their stories.
