Well, I have been thinking about the investment that cards give you and what I could do as I don't really have a set focus for collecting when it comes to cricket cards. So From now I am considering collection just Base Sets, Cigarette Cards and Signature Cards until I am at a point in life when I have more money to get master sets completed and so on.

Of course I will still collect Dean Cox. And when it comes to other sports I will try to get Tim Cahill, Cesc Fabregas, Luc Longley and Andrew Bogut Base cards. Have decided to forget Boston Red Sox for now.

P.S - Will be selling a lot of cards soon, however am going to complete the inserts for 2003-04 ESP set only before new collecting focus starts.

Hi Tim

Trying to collect everything can be detrimental to your bank balance.
What cigarette cards are u collecting?. Some great Australian sets eg Wild Wild West.

Regards

Ron

Good Luck mate i know where you are coming from, and having a clear direction is paramount where the bank acct is concerned! You simply cant collect everything! though im sure some have tried Ha Ha!
Cheers

Try the UK ebay site if u haven't already. Watch out for reprints. All dealers i've used will send to Aust even if not listed worldwide. Big variation in postage so look around.

1st post... Yeah you really need some sort of direction in collecting or the pockets do get very light!
I started seriously again about eight months ago, by selling off lots of other cards and collectables to concentrate on cricket base sets from 1981/82 Scanlens - present, excluding along the way stickers and bread cards. (I still have many valuable rugby league card sets that I am sitting on as I cant get rid of them. They are some of the first ones that I collected as a kid and I have an attachment to them, that is hard to understand for people that arent collectors!)
Anyway from my rough calcualtions I am missing around 5 base sets from that timeframe
I really wish there was a 100 years of cricket cards book like the one there is for rugby league, which lists every set and inserts along the way!

Anyway how hard is it to track down a full set of the 1988/89 Scanlens Stimorol 144 card set (orange and green)???

Ive picked up a mint 81/82 Scanlens 90 card set just the other day for a touch under $100, but finding the 88/89 I havent had much luck!

like your thinking on the cricket car book ;)

BTW - maybe throw an intro in the NEw member section so everyon can find out a little about your collecting and so on.

I have added an intro in the new members section now.

It would take an enormous amount of research to compile one, but I am sure there are probably people working on it as we speak (well I hope anyway)
