Celts lose first game.

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Luke Jackson had 14 points to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 96-86 victory over the Boston Celtics in an NBA exhibition game on Tuesday night.

Paul Pierce had 18 points and seven rebounds for Boston in its preseason opener.

The Cavaliers played without All-Star guard LeBron James, who was not in uniform as a precaution after he strained his left pectoral muscle on Monday night in Cleveland's 116-94 victory over the Washington Wizards.

James experienced pain Monday and team physician Dr. Richard Parker advised him to sit out the game. James is listed as day-to-day.

Cleveland trailed 20-6 about four minutes into the game, but the Cavaliers outscored Boston 39-21 the remainder of the first half and 26-20 in the third quarter.

Donyell Marshall had three 3-pointers and 13 points for Cleveland, while Zydrunas Ilgauskas had 12 points and Drew Gooden 11. The Cavaliers were 29-for-40 at the free throw line.

The Celtics held a 45-34 rebounding advantage and outscored the Cavaliers 40-28 in the paint.

A loss in a pre-season game means nothing. I listened to some of that game and I didn't recognize half the players.

pierce played very well, shot the ball well. and perkins grabbed 9 boards.

107-100 celts win.
orien green, ryan gnomes, scarbaline, reed, bynum and perky played all the last quarter between them.
and what i found out is ryan gnomes is a machine.
10 points last quarter , fineshed on 5-9 fg 8-9 th.. 18 points 6 rebounds
scarb was costly but looked like he can earn an occasional gig for the celts, bynum isnt ready with limited minutes but still did some dumb
things, orien green suprised me, very effiecent 4p 4r 3a 2s,
perky 5p 8r 1b..... and reed came home like a steam train and scored 6 of our last 7 points, finished with 12p 4 b on 5-8 fg, ggreen didnt et much of a chance wonder what the story is there!!

do we have anyone on our team that cant shoot very impressive to see our young guys run this game out. pierce 19 and rickyd 13 also.

Gnomes has been talked up by Danny as THE pickup of the summer. Been playing well against the white team and will get good minutes this year.

gnomes is a gun, he is a tank, very good 2nd round pick-up thats for sure... not just today but he has showed signs in the summerleauge also.
