Its arguable that Fletcher is more a floating back flank but has played brilliantly at full-back. In terms of a whole career, Fletycher wins. This year though, Lake has been Supreme. Be interesting if Bradshaw gets in....what a match-up that would be!
how did scarlett get 3 votes, he's half the player he was 2 years ago, has really struggled this year from what ive seen. i also like Frawley, could easily be the premier backman in the next couple of years.
and crows2010, is anyone a true full back these days? the players all zone, fill gaps and provide run and its more a case of doing what you need to do. the traditional positions down the middle arnt really what they used to be anymore! a fullback these days can play most positions in the backline, provides easy switch to CHB and even forward like brian lake has done a couple of times. maybe the question needs to be more like Whos the best backman in the AFL? Covers all of them then.
Lake's incredibly creative but his stats overstate his contribution. One on one he is too easily beaten. I used to love it when he went to Richo...
Happy days!
Likewise, Fletcher is exposed these days if he plays on the opposition's number one or two forward.
The thing I really like about Frawley is he can go to a tall or a small, his one on one competitive efforts in the air are outstanding and his disposal is sound.
I went Scarlett. Maybe a bit bias, but I think he's more of a defender than Lake. Lake gets high possesions and runs off his man where as Scarlett is more of a shut down defender. Scarletts had a 'bad' year mainly because of injury, but when he's not injured we've seen how he shuts players down.
