Melbourne Tigers centre Chris Anstey has capped off his side's championship win with a personal accolade by winning the NBL's Most Valuable Player award.
In what was the Tigers big-man's first season back in the NBL since 2001/02 after a stint in Russia, and he amassed statistical averages of 22.1 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks for the season.
He also showed that he has no problem playing under pressure, starring in the three games of the grand final series against the Sydney Kings to win the Larry Sengstock Medal.
The Tigers gun took out the NBL’s Player of the Month honours in November and was the Player of the Week on three occasions (Rounds 16, 17 and 19).
Anstey polled 135 votes to take out the league's most prestigious individual award from Perth Wildcats import Shawn Redhage (116) and Wollongong Hawks star Cortez Groves (114).
Fourth in voting was Sydney’s CJ Bruton (106) while fifth was Townsville star Larry Abney (102).
In addition to winning the MVP, Anstey was also named in the All-NBL first team joined by CJ Bruton (Sydney Kings), Cortez Groves (Wollongong Hawks), Brett Maher (Adelaide 36ers), and Larry Abney (Townsville Crocodiles).
