2012 select series 2 rumors!

As much as i will get stoned for such a comment how about a player signing that hasn't done so time and time again for Select. Like say oh.......

Peter Matera Hall of Fame signature. ;)

Seriously how many Buckley and Hird signatures does one collector need?

As many as we can get our hands on

I agree that they should try and get some sigs of other players. There's quite a few players out there who don't have a draft sig (picked with a later pick etc) and have been around for quite some time.

Yeah maybe a triple auto.....lets say Yarran, Betts and Garlett perhaps:whistle:

Don't get me wrong, i love Bucks and Hird, legends of the game and grew up watching them. However i would love to see a little more diversity to what Select put out.

I mean just for my team i would love to see a

Scott Selwood
Daniel Kerr
Dean Cox
Luke Shuey
Jack Darling
Guy McKenna
John Worsfold
Mick Malthouse (coach)
Ross Glendenning
Peter Matera
Chris Lewis
David Wirrpanda

etc etc.

Every team collector would have a similar list of greats and presents they would love a signature of but all select will do is throw up draft rookie signatures, either medal redemptions or Legend Signatures.

Where is the diversity???????????

They couldn't give a rat's arse what we want.

SIMPLE AS THAT.

Well there's no reason why they shouldn't attempt it. Select Series 1 this year had some nice ideas (milestones), although I feel a tad disappointed they couldn't also do signatures.

Would also like to see them do a heritage set (similar to the Hawthorn premiership set from last year) for other clubs/teams. Quite envious Hawks supporters had the opportunity to get such a nice set.

Please note - I did ask/make a thread for a Buckley, Voss & Hird triple sig card at the year.....

With no disrespect to all those who loved it but series one was about as bland a series as i can remember.

This is series one from 2003. 4.95 a pack

top 16 rookie autos 1 a box.
Premiership predictors 1 a box. (remember the good ol days when predictors were in series one thus making them fun to keep for the year just incase?) *Sigh*
All australians 6 a box.
Rookie expectations 1 in 2 boxes
Hall of fame cards 1 a pack
hall of fames legends 1 a box
Wayne Carey Fresh Ink. 1 in 3 boxes??? (can't remember)
Medal winners Cards 1 a box
Medal Signature Cards 1 a case

Now compare that kind of value compared to Select Series one this year, take the extra 2 dollars into account and i still know what i'd much prefer to buy.

Oh yippee i pulled a crappy sticker with some kind of gold card that is too thick to even pick my teeth with... Yay.

Select's Quality Control Dept. It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times.

Here's a rumour for you. Select are handing out a free t-shirt with every case of series 2 with the business model strategy printed on the front.

EXCLUSIVE...

I think All-Australians should go back to being ratio inserts & medal winners should also be numbered (like previous NRL releases).

Would be nice if they did something like B&F winner signature cards, although I think there may be issues with using club award pics/images.

Medal signature cards including the Rising Star.....

No kidding. 2003 was my first year for collecting select footy cards. I remember every card looked special (even the commons!), and the inserts were too good to pass up. As you say, I'd rather pay $5 and feel like I'm getting at least $5's value, rather than paying $3 and feel like I've come up short. Not to disregard this years cards, but it definitely isn't their best year.

Same here Aidan. And i still think that common set is one of the best i have seen. What Select don't get is quality is what brings new collectors into the fold but more importantly keeps them in for the long haul. Series one has been bland since 2006. They find something we say we like "gems" " foil signatures" then drive it into the ground to the point that if i ever see another f**king g*d d**n bloody sh*tty pointless gem card i will go on a rampage. They have no care for freshness of product or the industry as a whole. Series one was dumbed down to compete with teamcoach. What those muppets at Select don't get is that teamcoach is popular with kids because they get to play the games as a added bonus. "Trading cards" are essentially a market for collectors and who wants to collect the same sh*t year in, year out. What they basically tell us is that we can either take it or leave it. If any other company had the license just imagine what kind of cards we could have gotten over the years.

Select think diversity is a old, old wooden ship, used during the civil war era.

'03 was great. I'm just spewin' because I've 'misplaced' all but 3 of my cards from that set!
Haha. But they're called 'gems', it must mean we'll love them, and love them and love them..
I've actually considered going the route of teamcoach this year, due to their 3d and etch cards, but I guess brand loyalty and naivety held me back. That won't work forever though.
If their was any real competition to select, we'd be seeing them produce what we know they can, but for some reason decide not to. Want to start up a card company? ;)

Don't tempt me.

For years my mates and i have played this game, imagine inserts like (and i am stealing from other brands here)

Thunder & lightning Buddy as thunder Rioli as Lightning.

Greats of the game. Matera, Carey, Matthews, Hird....etc..

Speed Demons....Jetta, Hill, Rioli, Garlett........

Soldiers of September... players that have risen above it all in the crunch of the season..... Jarmen, Dermot......etc

Guernsey cards both in game and training gear...

Coach signatures.... Matthews, Malthouse, Sheedy,.....etc

numbered paralells of common cards....

Young guns signatures, Darling, Shuey, Fyfe, Garlett, Fasolo,

Comeback kings.....cards for teams that have come back from ridiculous margins to win... West coast vs Geelong 06 ;)

Father & Sons The Brennans, The Fletchers, The Watsons, The Libratores,.....etc

Triple Crown... Players that have won a combination of 3 different medals.., Ablett jr, Judd, Hird, Bartel, Cousins, Buckley.....etc

As you can see it aint that hard, Select just don't care.

There's probably been more imagination and creativity in this thread, than there has been at Select for the last couple of years.

This is what happens when you're complacent and have no direct competition.

Would like to see them have an attempt at guernsey and dual/triple autos. A lot of potential and interest in these sort of cards.

Although if they only do Hall of Fame, might limit what they would want to do with other sort of inserts.

All they need to do is take a look at all your big companies in America. I'm dying to get a 'game-worn' card. even if the pricing were $9.95 per pack, I'd be all over it.

Hi guys, I have confirmation from Bob Skilton and Steve Wang from cardzone. That there will be a hall of fame release.
This means that there will be Jesaulenko and Murray legend signatures (both which I'm dying to get, already have Pratt, farmer, Hudson, baldock). If a legend is in ducted this year (hopefully good old Lou Richards). Will be great to get a Lou Richards redemption card, not only for collingwood fans but everyone.
Hopefully there are a few more inductees this year into the HOF. As long as they don't release a bloody umpires set. Who honestly would care about that!

honestly wouldnt mind seeing a Premiership Captain and Coach Dual Sig or Captain, Coach, Norm Smith Medallist

even B&F signatures or rising star nominees just for something different.

I agree its time for some new signature cards. How about Chris Dawes, Travis Cloke, Sharrod Wellingham, Ben Johnson, Harry O'Brien, Heath Shaw, Nick Maxwell, Alan Toovey, Tyson Goldsack, Jarryd Blair or Brent Macaffer.
Not all big names but they are the Collingwood players from the 2010 premiership that don't have a signature card. I have half the side lol.
But seriously, rising star sigs would be a good idea eg Darling, Fasolo, Shuey, S. Selwood. Great idea!
