Show something off

Funny how the Star Rubies and other PMG's are twice as rare but the red PMG still commands a huge premium over the other rare base parallels.

Enough chit chat since this is a show-off thread. My only red pmg. Mr Big Country.

Loved Vin Baker, but pity about the alcohol issues. He could have probably been better and played in the NBA for a lot longer.

Out of curiosity, is there a time you've set that you will offload the majority, if not all, of your treasures? I'd imagine you'd be able to get a house in Sydney quite easily.
My missus has already given me an exact time when I will have to offload everything.

Dont forget to pay taxes guys when you offload
Not good when you don't know how much you bought it for.

The opposite would be true also, if you bought a card as an investment and then sold out at a loss, you can have carried over capital gains losses to offset capital gains.

But this all means you need to have kept good records of your purchases.

Do you know if you get the 50% capital gains discount if you held it for a while?

Nope, not really. Would want to offload them before I keel over through, as my family probably wouldn't know what to do with them or how much they are really worth.

Maybe when I'm going to retire, I'll start to let them go. But that ain't probably going to happen for another 15 or 20 years.

Always best to seek independent financial advice.
From my understanding it is a standard asset so all the normal rules apply - 50% disc, carried forward losses, etc. Without receipts I think you may have to cop a $0 cost base but best to confirm with an accountant.
For timestamping I like to take lots of photos and email myself, load to flickr, post here, facebook, etc. Its not all about flexing or vanity post, showing off does have accounting purposes.

That's the thing isn't it? Your family won't know the value of them, I'm aware of that, so I know that eventually I will have to be the one to sell them, otherwise they may get severely ripped off.

Yeah that's why its important to database i think, updated regularly with estimated market prices should give some help if the unthinkable happens, also helps to have a mate in the hobby the family can lean on for help.
