Saw someone post a picture of Jarrod Croker's signature card from a few years ago, is that the worst signature ever? Looked like a cartoon.

Always thought this guys auto was a shocker........ looks like something Mr Squiggle would create a masterpiece from.

I thought Croker and Lolohea were bad and then the players who would just do their initials would be disappointing (only when they were paid to sign a signature) but then I seen some of the nba sigs, lucky to even get initials these days on them

You notice the older players from the 60s,70s,80s etc were really nice , but handwriting was also more important in that era . A lot of the new gen would struggle in the education department unfortunately, but still no excuse for laziness.
I suppose it’s hard to comment when you’re not a professional, but It’s something I would be proud to do if I was a professional athlete. Something as simple as a signature can make a fans day , also us collectors would appreciate it .

I listened to a podcast of someone who did signings with MJ and Kobe and the players both realised that their signature was part of their branding so they tried to have a consistent nice signature for items that they were paid to sign.

In relation to the NRL the players guide said that they should have 2 types of signatures, 1 for signing legal documents and for items sold by the club and another shorter signature for in person autographs.

Yeah I agree 100% . Obviously the NBA is a lot bigger but still the same concept . Not hard to put a little bit of effort into it . Maybe if they had to do a real job 60 hours a week they would think twice about scribbling 🤣

Such a shame as his signature was awesome and now you get that crap. It's even worse with my dragons pc as I have gone back and done the inserts now too. I have nice full signatures from when he signed the commons at the time they were released and then the inserts have that squiggle thing 😡

A few players do that now. Andrew Fifita comes to mind. He did decent signatures on his official signature cards and scribbles on in person ones.

These are what I was talking about. Left side is common signed in 2005, right is the parallel signed in 2018, and tazos done a few years apart

Someone shared an actual Bulldogs contract on here a few years ago that suggested they provide short signatures to fans, which I thought was pretty disappointing at the time. The fans are the lifeblood of the game.

For me Gasnier wins both the biggest degeneration and the worst signature. To the point where he may as well have ripped your card up in front of you in the end of his career. El Masri and Issac Luke can join this club too. They had beautiful signatures at the start of their careers. The disappointing thing about it was that their shorthand scribble wasn't even consistent, it was literally just a scribble, although it depends what day you got Luke on. Luke often signed his nickname too, which was disappointing.

Sonny Bill and Slater had beautiful signatures too that became initials. I treasure my 2005 IPs of them. So many do it it is impossible to list, DCE, Watmough, Matulino, Brett Morris, etc, etc.

Then there are the likes of Chambers, or for the most part, Tuqiri who wouldn't sign at all. There are a lot of master set IP hunters that have one or two gaps in their sets thanks to those two. In fact the guys that outright taunt fans about putting stuff on Ebay are really disappointing and the club should step in. I get that some IP hunters are a pain in the ass, but painting all your fans with the same brush is pretty cynical, especially when you are reaping the rewards of being an employee in the entertainment industry.

And then there are the guys that really understand what the fan connection is all about (the majority tbh). For my Warriors collection I have never had a bad signature from Simon Mannering or Manu Vatuvei. And of course I'll forever admire Cam Smith. How many perfect signatures has he taken the time to pen in his career? How many fans has he sent home buzzing about it? That takes patience and true class as far as I'm concerned.

You can tell a lot about a person’s attention to detail by the effort they put into their signature. I think of the Broncos that TLA have had sign in Traders and Elite and Alex Glenn is the only player in the last few years I have seen with a nice sig that is identical full signatures on IPs, jerseys and signature cards. He’s not the best player in the world, but from all reports, he works harder at training than all the young blokes. Oates uses the same signature but I reckon I could pretty easily draw three circles.
