Should ESP go even further next year in 2018 with Diamond in mojo sets out of 5, would you chase it?

Wondering how people are going with their mojo collections and I am also still suspecting ESP will still go even further with a Diamond /05 mojo next year along with Emerald, Sapphire and Ruby mojo replications.

ps I know I've brought this up before but simply still curious about such procedure and would be interesting to see how's everyone been going now 17 Elite now out @TOW and dust has settled now something is in the release I personally thought was going to be in even from 12 months ago, which we were all dreading lol

I still think they need to make the Mojo cards single cards......id rather have something to chase than have to shell out 250/500/750 etc for full sets in one hit.

Think it would help ESP's sales too by giving the product longevity.

Could you imagine the trading frenzy over people swapping and trading the single cards?

Here's what they could do....

160 base card set - 640 x 10 Box Cases

Ruby (Limited to 40) = 6400 Total Cards = 1 Per Box - 10 Per Case

Sapphire (Limited to 20) = 3200 Total Cards = 1 in 2 Boxes - 5 Per Case

Emerald (Limited to 10) = 1600 Total Cards = 2.5 Per Case

Cheers
Matt

Hmm interesting, so by the looks of it, there will NOT be a Diamond /05 variant if ESP discover it pointless?

We are already at a point where people can only do team sets rather than master sets.

Going that low will make it near impossible for anyone to do teams sets either.

atm, only 10 team collectors can get a full set as there are only 10 emeralds, they have cut there business in half a gain this year.
If they do a diamond, ie 5, that means there will be only 5 team collectors out there that can get a full team set.
IMO that is not good business sense.

#1 Storm Sapphire. What sort of value on this one

They have already killed the Team collectors when they introduced 1/1 last year so what is the difference now ...

I'd like to personally thank all those for participating on this topic your feedback has been quite helpful as a matter of fact!

FINAL THOUGHT: No matter what we say and do to prevent such such concept occurring ESP will probably still go ahead and put it in next year IMO and if/when dust settles collectors will still chase cards and complain about what they can't grab hold of but will be grateful with what they actually do! Some collectors might consider becoming an Individual Player/s collector if Team sets become not that much easier than Master sets and just as many of us don't like the 1/1 cards, everyone still seems to try and collect what they can and same thing should happen with the Diamond /05 mojo be introduced next year along with Emerald, Sapphire and Ruby replications. These have been a hit since 2015 as FAIC and collectors will still maintain sentimentality for a non-signature-patch high-end in similar manner as Black LL cards from 2012 (believe ESP mojos have made some of these Black card players drop a little if so) even if it means ruby mojos dropping to as little as $40 on good days along with sapphires as little as $65 and emeralds as little as $100 lol. In other words, the good old card collecting never dies!

I am one case who has definitely dropped out of the NRL card market due to the saturation of parallels. As a team collector my goal was to get every Canberra Raiders card. The thought of spending $2,000 on parallels this year just doesn't do it for me.

I know it'd be a nightmare for collectors but I'd personally like a Jersey Parallel set.

Either reprints of the commons or 1-17 of the club's round 1 lineup that year, with the background being the same as the club's jersey design. Numbered to 17 per card.

If it was all 17 players per team they'd come out in about 7/10 cases so they'd probably be another thing not included in newsagent boxes though.

I would like to get specific players from the Panthers Mojo Sets and if they were single cards I would be paying well for these individual players/serial numbering.

I am really torn on these sets.....would love one of the emerald mojo sets from this year but with 2 of the 9 players already leaving the team (1 or 2 more potentially going at the end of the year), and some real high profile players missing from the set (No Moylan/Mansour/RCG/DWZ/Wallace) do I really want these cards?

I'd really love all 3 Nathan Cleary cards (Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald) but to get them i'm probably looking at close to $1500+

For $1500 I could buy a Merrin/Tamou/Peachey and Latu full signed match worn jersey from the club!

I like the look of the cards, just not sure I can justify spending this money on them especially with so many good players missing from the Panthers set.

Cheers

I too have now bowed out.

Mostly because I'm unsure about how to go about the busting/buying process as I said earlier in the thread

I've invested in 4 team case breaks this season ($500) and I have hit a 1:6 as my most valuable team card 3 times and got a Captain as my best hit in the other. That is just dumb bad luck and I'm happy to own that, but like you there is no way on earth I can justify to myself or family buying parallels off Ebay for $1500. Such an unappealing way to collect. It would be different if the big ticket items were like the 2004/09 captains, or legends from Centenary or even game worn signatures instead of parallels.

TLA produces beautiful cards now, but I still don't think they have sussed out their market properly and some of their background practices aren't ideal

I'm just feeling a bit jaded by how much of an effort it has felt lately, so actually quite relieved to move on.

I know some on here consider me a whinger, but I don't think that is true; I'm a die hard that is finding it hard to let go!

I'm quite happy to live on vicariously through others, it is fun to watch breaks and look at the goodies others have picked up.

For me, I'm a common card collector foremost. I used to buy a full parallel set and two parallel team sets (Souths and Melbourne), then got to the Gold/Black 2nd parallel team sets.

Luckily, I deal with a fantastic dealer, who caters to my needs. I don't go after high end. Basically, commons, low parallel and things like FOTG, Engine Room, that sort of subset. And Souths sigs. For 7 years he's looked after me really, really well.

This Elite set, there's nothing really in it for me. The Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald subsets have killed it for me. I still went for the two sigs, but there's nothing else really worth chasing. I'll get the Souths stuff up to parallel silver and that's it.

So I've basically gone from being a minor master set (less all the sigs etc) to a team set. And this year, for Elite I'm only doing it out of loyalty to my dealer. I've bought 5 packets from a newsagent, now for 2 parallels. At $40 that's not value. That's not value at all. ESP have also doubled the price of a Premiers set, and made them exclusive. Souths had their own exclusive Premiers set. They were $80. Now $25. My collection has devalued almost 75% on that set. Cowboys were exclusive to the club and they charge $15 postage. Sharks I had to nab from another dealer who helped me out. But then they did the signed exclusive Sharks set. They did SoO for a couple of years until they got bored with it. I haven't seen the jersey round cards out yet...assuming they're coming soon but out of my price range. And that's the killer. I don't mind exclusive stuff but there's too much for a small market and it's too costly. Assuming they play favourites, it's not fair either. And ok, I'm having a whinge, and back on point...emerald ruby and sapphire are nice...but not my cup of tea, can't justify the price and am off collecting them, so Elite is a bust for me. The commons aren't even that good either. Even if I did bust something, in a month, the value will be gone. After 2 weeks on the shelves, the value is gone anyway looking at some of the prices now.

ESP would be better of gauging who the big $$$ collectors are and make exclusive Mastersets for them. A Hobby and Newsagent split would be better too, and priced accordingly.

Not having a dig at sellers either because they have to make a buck. Problem is, I find, some random will bust a sig or a ruby and fire sale it on here or eBay because they'll take what they can get (And they get $50 on a sig card they bought out of a $8 packet, whereas the dealers buy cases and need these sigs to sell at $100 to break even) and then the dealers are stuck with stock they can't sell at profit margins that make them go for a loss. People then whinge dealers are 'over priced' when you can get an XXX sig for $50 BIN on eBay. And sadly, there's no longevity in the product. Two weeks out, I reckon most collectors have spent big $$$ and busted/traded what they need OR are sitting back despondent because they got something they can't swap / sell for love nor money.

I like Matt's idea of seeding ruby etc in as single cards not single packs. I'd probably chase stuff then. Maybe.

That said, I love Traders and PPX for the range of cards. And yes, there is too much to collect in those sets but the price is better and the options are juicier. This Elite set does nothing for me.

Anyway...incoherent rant over. Good luck however you collect and I hope you find what you want.
