I am after serious help, not people's thoughts.

Anyway, here's the problem. Went to start my PC on Saturday night, and I logged into my XP account (User & password).

The computer then froze on the screen saying "Loading Personal Settings". I then restarted the computer. When it loaded up again, it went to a blank "Light Blue" screen, similar to the user logon screen, without the user logon option. After many restarting the PC (safe modes, and whatever other modes it would allow), and much frustration, I decided to reinstall XP.

The reinstallion was going fine until it got to "Completing Installation" stage. It goes to this stage, about 75% complete, and stating 25 mins remaining, where it freezes again.

Again, after much restarting & frustration, I managed to do a fresh installation into \WINXP directory instead of normal WINDOWS directory. I am currently using this installation, but am working on minimum settings.

The major problem is that I would prefer not to have to reinstall all the programs under this new WinXP installation, and wonder is there any fix to the previous version that is hanging/freezing.

Thankfully, most of my Data is stored on my slave drive, but it's the personal settings, links & programs that I'd prefer to get working if possible.

Thanks.

If most of your data is on the slave drive, then did you do a full format to your primary drive? I wasn't sure whether you might've or not because you just said a fresh installation.

I would do a full format and fdisk it and then install XP. See what happens.

However, with that light blue screen that you encountered, what did it say? Usually it would say a reason why that blue screen came on. For example, memory dump etc.

Not that I'm an IT support specialist, but sounds like you have spyware, virus or both on your machine.

Do you have any anti-spyware software installed? Spybot, Microsoft anti-spyware, Ad-aware etc.

Try running a scan and see what happens.

Also a computer component or program simple may have sh!t itself.

Henkita, nah didn't reformat (just yet). That'd be last option.
The Light Blue Screen is the same colour as the Welcome screen I am supposed to get, but the welcome part does not show.

Sonny - Ad-Aware, Zone Alarm & AVG. I think you may be right about a problem with component, but trying to work out which one it may be and reinstalling it would be the problem.
