“A familiar, but dramatically improved, technology.”
That’s how the Panini America sales material boldly introduced the framework for both 2012-13 Prizm Basketball and the upcoming 2012 Prizm Football. After all, chromium-inspired, light-reflective trading cards have been around for many years. They’ve just never been done quite like this. The company first delivered its stunning take on the technology last month in 2012-13 Prizm Basketball. The shock waves are still reverberating throughout the collecting universe today.
True to its mantra, that first taste of Prizm — with its brilliant parallels, deep, dimensional etching, complimentary design principles and an utter refusal to warp — indeed offered a “familiar, but dramatically improved, technology” that resonated with collectors who’d waited long enough for the genre’s what’s-next jolt. Prizm Basketball got the ball rolling. When Prizm Football releases in early February, the revolution will continue.
To be sure, the printing technology incorporated in Panini America’s Prizm brands is not the same-old, same-old. It’s richer, deeper and designed to impress. One waltz through the gallery that follows and you’ll see exactly what I mean.
Yesterday afternoon, I had the distinct pleasure of spending some quality time with the first uncut sheets of 2012 Prizm Football — one 100-up base autograph form, one 100-up Prizm parallel form and one 100-up Gold Prizm form. To kick off this special Knight’s Lance weekend preview of 2012 Prizm Football, we’ll explore those first two today. Tomorrow, we’ll bring you up close and personal with some of those Gold Prizms.
In the coming weeks, we’ll bring you extended looks at the product’s other captivating parallels — the resplendent Reds, the glorious Greens, the brilliant Blacks.
So buckle up and get ready for a joy ride. We can’t wait to hear your thoughts.
