Hi guys, as most of you know, I'm a big Storm fan. I have been very grateful that the Storm have played 3 or 4 games here in Perth over the last few seasons, but my dream is to see a Storm home game.

My wife and I decided next season we will take a 2-3 night trip to Melbourne to see the Storm play and hopefully catch a training session or get to meet a few of the boys.

Just thought I would start this quite early and I am seeking some advice here and if anyone could help, that would be awesome.

I'm just wondering if there is any decent but not too expensive hotels close to where the Storm play and if anyone has any suggestions for restaurants, other things to see/do, etc.

I have never even been out of WA before, so it is all a bit daunting, but I am pretty excited to be going over to Melbourne with my wife and little son.

So yeah, I will stop rambling now, but if anyone has any advice on hotels, places to eat, etc, and anything else Storm related, I would be very grateful.

Cheers guys!

I'm a Sydney sider and these are my thoughts. Melbourne is really easy to get around with the tram system. I'd get there and jump on the free tourist tram which does a loop around the city. From there you can work out what you'd like to see. In terms of food, they have a China town like most capital cities but the place to go would be the Lygon St strip. It's lined with restaurants then finish up with a gelato on the run. If you are into produce, you can go to Victoria Park markets where you can get amazing cheeses, meats etc. Richmond has some fashion outlets which may excite the missus but it's quite exciting exploring the laneways of the CBD as you never know what you may find. The Observation Deck is the best place to get an aerial view of the city

Have to stay at the Great Southern hotel on Spencer street. Went their in Febuary, great pricing and the rooms are great. Room 450 is the one to stay in (two OzCardtraders in the same room in the same year)

Storm play at AAMI Park which is just outside the CBD. My advice would be to stay in the CBD and it's just a short train ride (1 station) out to Richmond station which is practically next to AAMI Park (and the rest of the Melbourne sporting precinct).

In terms of which hotel specifically? Just hit up Wotif and then cross reference against Trip Advisor to check reviews, really can't go wrong.

Awesome, thanks everyone. Already excited lol.

Now I can't wait for the fixtures so we can plan this!

On the things to do, depending how old is your son is, there is the old Melbourne Goal which has tours and you can buy a combo ticket to explore the Polly Woodside tall ship, pirate theme. $55 for a family for both attractions and not a bad way to kill time, both pretty much in the CBD. The tall ship right near the casino (restaurants expensive near Crown).

There is the aquarium which is not bad, also close to casino. There is also the National Sports Museum which also has tours available of the MCG and for a sports nutter this is pretty cool but from memory $75-$80 for the family.

Have fun.

Isn't it $20 family?

Not sure which one you mean, the NSM has been a while, I think they offer match day discounts or members discounts but I think I paid about that much.
