Just wondering if anyone has any information on these cards. My brother pulled out about 4 or 5 Peter Sumich personally numbered autographed cards that were mail-aways from 1996 I think. Light blue border. Numbered out of 500. Never seen them before and was wondering if anyone knows about them. Did any other players sign or was it just a thing with the Eagles.

Cheers guys.

If they are numbered they are dodgy. Spoke to Tip Top about the numbered cards at the time and they did not issue any numbered cards. There were some signed cards around which someone hand numbered to make them look authentic. Usually if not always there is no redemption card with the numbered ones. Would not touch a numbered Tip Top card.

Mine is signed with redemption card and numbered also and is legit

As I said, I spoke to the person at Tip Top who was solely responsible for the signed cards and the redemptions. The person was emphatic that none of the cards were ever numbered at Tip Top. I had a few redemptions at the time and they all came back unnumbered. There were quite a few signed cards floating around which the sales reps had. It was thought that someone got hold a pile of those and numbered them to make them look more authentic. If it's numbered, as far as I am concerned and also according to Tip Top the number has been added by someone outside Tip Top. It's not the real deal.

Looks like the same marker has been used for the sig and the numbering , maybe the player or players manager numbered cards at time of signing meaning that tip top didn't number them. Just a thought:confused:

For whatever it's worth i spoke to Steve Wang from Card Zone about them a few years back in great length. As i had both and wondered which one was the rarest. He told me the un numbered ones were the promos.

Just for people to have a reference.

Lol.

It is pretty obvious that the same pen that did the signature has been used to number those cards.
Obviously if you we're going to add numbers you would use the same pen. Would be dumb not to. When these cards came out I was buying them from someone involved in the packaging of the cards. I bought around 100 sets as well as some still in the packets before they got bread in them. I also bought 15 redemptions. The redemptions were sent to Tip Top none came back numbered. What did happen though is that Tip Top kept the redemptions because they didn't realise that collectors would want them. I contacted them and they sent me out as many used redemptions as I wanted. There was only one person at Tip Top involved with the signature cards no one else. None of the signatureb sent to collectors were ever numbered. The numbered cards turned up at a card fair being sold by a certain dealer and it was commonly thought he was numbering the cards to make them more valuable.

Looks like we are not going to put this one to bed yet.
This is interesting I would of thought Steve Wang would have a pretty good idea.
I honestly dont know what to believe anyone
else have any ideas on this.

So this card dealer just so happened to have the same pen as the players used?
Doubtful, considering the ink looks exactly the same and given the players used different colours.

.... The guy with 6 posts definitely knows more about this than OCT's seasoned collectors and Steve Wang.
