The Australian cricket non-official thread!

It's funny.

CA only play the domestic ODs because of the world cup.

However, the players most likely to play in the ODI WC don't play in it.

The free-to-air coverage begins this morning ladies and gentleman, with the opening shots fired in the Women’s Ashes series! The series consists of 3 x One Day Internationals (all televised on GEM), a Day/Night Test at North Sydney Oval (Cricket Australia live streaming) and 3 x T20 matches.

It is fantastic that women’s cricket now demands a prominent place in the television schedule and hopefully this ODI series rates brilliantly. As much Australian-based cricket needs to remain on free-to-air television as possible in my opinion.

I love it when Test players are available for Sheffield Shield fixtures and the media run stories like "Poor XYZ misses out because...blah blah blah."

Surely if you have a team that can select Starc, Cummins, Lyon, Hazelwood, Warner, Smith...then the state players who were filling those spots just shuffle on down to NSW 2nd without a peep.

......and you could imagine the "Pampered Prima Donnas to Miss First Shield Round" headlines if the Test players were withdrawn from their state teams or opted to rest instead. Our players need to be as prepared as possible for this upcoming Ashes series and the best way to do that is by playing First Class cricket.

The NSW top six will apparently consist of David Warner, Nic Maddinson, Steve Smith, Kurtis Patterson, Moises Henriques and Daniel Hughes. In the West @Scotty_WCE, Justin Langer has to accommodate seven players - Shaun Marsh, Mitchell Marsh, Michael Klinger, Hilton Cartwright, Marcus Stoinis, Cameron Bancroft and Ashton Turner - into the top six!

What a terrific opener to the Women's Ashes series yesterday - it's amazing how watchable and enjoyable cricket is without the "boofhead" factor. Amanda-Jane Wellington looks a star in the making: I don't think I've seen a female leg-spinner with better control than her....she even whipped out the bouncing, fizzing leggie!!

Yeah, if Agar wasn't injured WA could well have fielded a full XI this week of players who have played for Australia! Can't imagine this would have happened - at least at WA - for a long time.

Caught the second half of Australia's chase in the Women's ODI yesterday. Turned out to be a very exciting finish! How cleanly was Ashleigh Gardner hitting the ball? And she's not even a specialist batsman!

WA vs NSW at Hurstville Oval in a few weeks is going to be much like the tour match they played in Darwin before the Bangladesh tour minus Khawaja and Renshaw!

So ex umpire Darrell Hair has pleaded guilty for stealing $10 000 from his old boss to feed a gambling addiction of his... Surprisingly he has no jail term and only an 18 month good behaviour bond...

Fox Sports suggesting Renshaw under pressure to keep spot and selectors keeping a keen eye on Nic Maddison because he can 'up the tempo '.

If this is true, that'll do me.

Agreed.

Renshaw has been very solid and is the perfect foil for Warner. Mid to high 30's average after ten tests and has shown a great temperament, patience and fighting ability against the new Ball.

If they can't stick with this kid for a while then they have rocks in their head

‘Up the tempo’ he had his chance and blew it big time. I thought Dave Warner upped the tempo anyway... what happens in those innings when both try to go big early and flop? Renshaw has a great temperament to partner Warner. Selectors (or maybe just Steve Smith) are kidding themselves.

Renshaw 2 failures. Maddinson 1 failure but worse.

S Smith failed too. Most bats have tbh. Except WA

Copeland 6 Wkts though. Good to see him back.

I think Aust might lose Ashe's. I have a gut fell it might be the ruination of Smith too

Congratulations to Alex Blackwell, who today plays her 250th international game for Australia.

You know, these female cricketers are bloody easy to like and relate to - it is perhaps the most significant part of the athlete/fan relationship, and it is an area where women’s team sport in Australia gets it right. How good is to see today’s ODI - a stand-alone international match - on Channel Nine, instead of being relegated to GEM?!

The opening round of the Sheffield Shield has been interesting to say the least - just who DOES want that number six batting position? I don’t like the “audition” nature of it to be quite honest and I hate what I’m reading on cricket forums elsewhere about “spuds” failing. Jesus I detest that word.
