He was nicknamed this as back in the ABA/NBA days as it was all image for most players. He was clyde as in bonnie and clyde, and he wore a trench coat and hat to game. Then you had Pete Maravich he was pistol pete.
George Gervin was the Icemab or 'ICE' and so on.
