'The establishment of the Two Thousand Guinea Stakes by the Victorian Jockey Club last year, induced their rival, the Turf Club, to originate, if possible, a race of a still higher class; and after considerable discussion, it was unanimously determined that a large handicap, on the principles of the Chester Cup and many similar races in the old country, would be an event that would be certain to meet with success. That the expectations of the promoters of this race have been fully carried out, cannot for a moment be doubted, that I think there is little fear but that the Melbourne Cup will continue for years to come to be the best patronised and most interesting race in the colonies.' From the Queensland Times, 15 November 1861

To celebrate the fact that I don't have to go to work all because of a horse race, I've decided to share the joy, and hold a Melbourne Cup Competition.

The Question

What will be the winner's time in the 2014 Melbourne Cup over 3200m at Flemington on the 1st Tuesday in November?

As horse races are timed to the 100th of a second, your answer should be in that form.

Simply, the closest answer wins.

As a start, the Cup record over 3200m is 3.16.30 set in 1990 by the mighty Kingston Rule, and the last 10 winning times are as follows.

3.20.30
3.20.45
3.20.84
3.26.87
3.23.87
3.20.40
3.23.34
3.21.47
3.19.17
3.28.55

Please note that you can change your guess up until entries close (Monday November 3rd @ 9.00pm AEST).

Also, there will be an added bonus, which will be announced closer to race day.

3.26.39 Thanks mate! If. I win, I'll be a)giving them free and after a few days, I'd just keep them and trade them, all except the Topps Premier Gold Cards.

I'll have a stab with 3:20:20

Kudos for the competition and putting up some awesome prizes!
