Does anyone know the best magazine or book to research non sport cards dating back to the early 1900's?

Thanks

I was just trying to gain some knowledge on the earliest cards of some of the iconic stars-

e.g. Superman, Spiderman, Star wars ect.

Okay, the Gum Guide goes back to 1960 but is a simple listing of the set. The Encyclopedia has more detail on each set but only goes back to 1985. Fortunately, you don't actually want vintage cards (ie early 1900s), which are much harder. Earliest Star Wars was the Topps sets around movie release (1977). Superman actually had a very rare 1940 set and there was a DC sticker set in 1966(1968?), but really there wasn't much else until 1981. I have most of the Superman stuff from then until 2005 on my site at http://www.jbadham.biz/Cards/DCIndex.htm. Spiderman I know nothing about except the 1984 set and there were a bunch of Marvel sets in the mid 1990s.

Since you're after fairly modern stuff, the Non-Sports Update magazine is your best bet.
