Is it me or is this a HUGE price for this card??

Yeh, the price seems right so far for that card, expecting it might even get to 4-5k, but the 2 colour patch is holding it back

That's insane, there's some crazy Buy It Now Griffin patches available for the price of a house in Sydney. Let's hope he continues this way through his career because he's exciting to watch.

I thought I'd scan this Griffin fun facts page from the new Beckett just to show how things have changed in such short time.

i cant really recall any recent players cards selling for this much $$$ aside from bron and jordan really... any thoughts people?

Kevin Durant to some extent but yeah thats about it. Griff's definitely got some hype happening atm and its not surprising, i think he's on 27 straight double doubles right now and only just ended that run of 20/10+ games which i think was something like 10 straight?

A rumour I hear from the US is that Blake griffin highlights are being televised all the the states and people will be sheep .. baaa

On the Topps McDonalds auto, I won the one on eBay for $202 but the seller backed out and refunded my money

But if Blake's prices keep rising it'll make up for that seller

Lets see where LA Clippers are in the standing.... 22nd in a 30 team league.... damn.... not going to pay so much unless LA Clipper is in the top 3 in the league. Overrated for sure, if I can buy a put option to sell Griffin RC autos, I would be buying heaps and heaps of it. I think people value it as the best RC for Griffin ... very much like the LeBron Exquisite RC and the best part of it is that it has only 99 of them. My call is to ignore this card altogether and buy it in 20 years time... I bet you it will be still be $3k for it then but $3k in 20 years time might be small change. Cheers Alex

I paid $360 for the Jennings Gold last year. Griffin regulars were around the same price. I thought I did blimmin well then getting $370 and a Durant Ultimate RC for it after they kinda blew up. Really really really wish I'd have gotten a Blake....

An interesting conspiracy theory is that the market is being manipulated by Beckett and Panini. Wouldn't be hard to do, after all, they would need to spend money on advertising anyway, and if they channeled those funds into pushing up the prices for NT, it builds up their branding and sales for subsequent years. It would take just a handful of sales and greed from other collectors would just fuel the burn. Thoughts?

I can see that happening actually exzibit, but I think it would be hard to bid on all the Griffins

Not necessarily in my opinion. Think about it. A majority of collectors can't afford the high end Griffins but a higher proportion of them would be able to afford anything below the $400 range. People see the high end cards selling for crazy prices, fueled by online forums like HK, and logically, they would think that the lower end Griffins should also increase by the same percentage. It takes a couple of completed sales and the bidders can see what the new benchmark is. Then, like the stock market, greed sets in and logic gets thrown out the window.

Interesting phenomenon which I think we see a similar thing happening is in the 08-09 Precious Metal Gems. It takes some interest from a couple of Aussie set collectors bidding on them, add a huge MJ green sale that gets the attention of the US markets, and before you know it, this very average looking set which isn't rare by today's standards just flies to another universe.

Strongly agree with you. Smell a rat here with Beckett.... not so sure with Panini but possible. It has "happened" in the past where certain cards have been cornered before and once most of the cards have been bought, the card and box value seem to have gone up astronomically. One good example was SP Authentic and the SPx Vince Carter RC, that was seriously hyped up and VC was playing with the Raptors back then..... there was absolutely no possibility of him winning to many championships with Raptors but yet his RC gone up and up..... hitting a $1000 at that time. The SP Authentic boxes were selling so quickly despite the fact that they were highly priced. If I am not mistake, there were only 2 rookie cards per box. Subsequent SP Authentic and SPx boxes also got sold out very quickly as they were perceived to be the most premium product at that time. I thought to myself back then, was to ignore VC and come back in 15 years to buy a RC of his. I think you can get one for less than $200 now. I am just stating from experience..... that such high prices could be a marketing gimmick with little bearing on the player's true calibre. Just disclaimer, I'm not saying that B. Griffin as a player is over-rated....just saying that the value of his card is.

Wow..2 extremely long posts :P

But I can't disagree with you guys, seems like his cards are just going crazy because of the hype, but i dont really mind his cards being over valued :D

It's a pity that you are a true Griffin collector...... otherwise you will be selling all your Griffin and be laughing all the way to the bank.
