Have to admit, it's pretty cool if he is and I am certain he wouldn't be the only one.
Would suck though if you had a 1/1 redemption that had to be replaced because he's kept the card but I am sure Panini would fling another to him to sign for mainstream. As they'd just need to reprint the 1/1 card get him to sign it and that's that. I notice that the dual Sig in his pic only has what I am assuming is his half signed. Keep an eye out for eBay user GreekFreak in years to come with high end Giannis 😂😂

I think you have to be careful projecting your value of the cards on to him.

It is possible to him they are pretty looking bits of cardboard and nothing more. Potentially his own signature holds very little extrinsic value to him (intrinsic value sure, but, actual $-value not so much) so he would see little need to protect them.

You have to remember many professional athletes find the whole card/memorabilia collecting hobby rather baffling and by some it is seen as down right crazy.

Also he is about to sign a contract worth hundreds of millions of AUD. Even if he has some idea of the $-value others may place on the cards he still may not see that as enough to worry too much about.

i understand the man is a multi millionaire and little things might not bother him like the rest of us card nerds.. but, he was once a child who grew up loving sports. looking up to sports stars and who knows maybe busting packs himself.
I don't see it as "baffling to professional athletes" many of them understand very well, what there name/image/ cards/memorabilia is worth now and financially going into the future.
The man is obviously swimming in another $$$ pool then the majority of the world, and yes just "pretty looking bits of cardboard" could be his thoughts. Yet he would not be the first athlete to grab his own cards.

I'm not with the crowd consensus on this one. I reckon it's deplorable to be honest, he is paid to sign and return these cards on top of the millions and millions he already earns per year. As a collector who will earn a small fraction in my lifetime compared to what he will get each year, that has forked out 4 figure prices for boxes of last years Immaculate only to see the exact card I am waiting on sitting on his table in the picture angers me to no end. He above anyone else can afford to collect his own cards the legitimate way without having to steal them. The result of stealing these cards from Panini is they won't be able to provide me with the 'box or case hit' card out of these boxes I paid for. I will be offered unsuitable compensation as per usual from Panini and once again have absolutely nothing of value to show for it.

Didn't mean to imply *all* athletes find it baffling. Just that some/many/a lot do, so, inferring that just because we would value them highly and lock them away in a plastic prison (as such) does not mean he should feel a need to.

Just because he is treating them differently than we would does not make him an "idiot" per se.

Glad you liked it.

My 8 year old nephew likes to "liberate" his cards and have them all play out the basketball game he is watching and is constantly finding different ways to line them up.

Height, weight, age, draft pick, draft year, last season PPG, career PPG, FG%, FT%, number of STL or Blk or ... anything goes.

Sure his cards get beaten up but I bet they have a lot more fun (and he probably does too) than my ones shut up in a cabinet in their little plastic cases or large folders!

Makes me remember the old days when I did the same with my rugby, cricket and league cards.

THIS. Agree

He probably got in big trouble, big lecture lol, the video disappeared. He's affecting millions of dollars worth of product first out with panini alone, let alone people selling group breaks with a premium people paying for the Bucks trying to hit the cards sitting right there.

He legit may not have thought it was a big deal.

If he did buy them, fair enough, it just wasn't clear and since the video is gone it looks like he may have to send back to Panini lol

That's a very valid point. Have to admit, I didn't really consider that as I would have just thought Panini would just get him to do another signing of the cards he keeps. But yeah, if he's just going "I like this one" and Panini aren't ensuring another is produced and signed to be fulfilled that sucks. However, I think the blame has to ultimately lie with Panini. As an example, his kept cards are very unlikely to appear on the market.
So it's not like Panini can't just remake the card and fulfill it even if it's a 1/1. Additionally, some of those are yet to be signed by the other player/players on the card which also has a knock on to that players collectors.
