Help making an avatar fit properly

im looking around and it looks like most people are having the same problem, no matter how i resize my original pic, i cannot make it fit the avatar window without cropping anything out, its annoying, does anyone have a solution?

Make your pic have white panels on each side so the 'pic' gets cropped just right!

Will be trial and error at first, but once one person does it we will know the sizes!

I just changed mine by making the 'canvas size' larger in photoshop. If you saw the image whole, it has black panels on each side as well.
The only problem is it would allow me to not have the black on the top and bottom

well thats better then before, argh i dont have the paitence right now, plus im an ammeture at photoshop(actually im cheap and have Gimp) ill have a play later,

Make the avatar square if you want to fit it in exactly. Alternatively you can move the avatar around to centre it so it shows ok above your name when you post.
