OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — When it comes to spectacular performances in the clutch, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes II knows a thing or two about how to deliver. Anyone who’s watched him play knows that. But watch him away from the field and you come away equally impressed. Certainly those in attendance last Friday during the 2017 Panini NFL Player of the Day grand prize event will attest to that. They saw firsthand just how engaging . . . how accommodating . . . how impressive the Chiefs’ superstar QB is.
Certainly, Mahomes left a lasting positive impression on J.P. Murnan and his family and friends. It was Murnan — the diehard Chiefs fan, collector and 2017 Panini NFL Player of the Day grand prize winner — who Mahomes traveled to Overland Park, Kan., to see. A day that began with a private party for Murnan and his guests (during which Mahomes passed the ball around, fielded questions, opened a briefcase of 2017 Flawless Football, signed autographs and posed for pictures) ended at The Baseball Card Store, where Murnan and Mahomes shared the grand prize with the community.
