hey guys,
just thought that i would bring to your attention the way upper deck has changed its wording of its 'authenticity' on the back of its michael jordan cards recently..
this is actually quite important, as it covers UD's ass legally if MJ didn't actually wear the jersey in an NBA game (eg. fake)..
remember, UD's legal team wouldn't change the authenticity on the back of the card for no reason..
here is an example of a card of mine prior to 06-07..
the back clearly states that "an authentic piece of patch worn by michael jordan in an nba game as a member of the chicago bulls".. legally, they could be sued if this is incorrect.. so this would mean that they would have most likely purchased the jersey directly from the NBA (nba properties)..
take this next mj jersey card from this years reflections (06-07)
on the back it simply states that the memorabilia on the front of the card has simply been "certified to us as having been used in an nba game".
it doesn't even state that mj wore the jersey like the previous version..and something that has been "certified to us as having been used in an nba game" just requires a COA from ANYONE!
this means that they could purchase a 'game-used' MJ jersey with a COA off ebay and use it in their cards..
this just seems dodgy to me, as if UD are covering ther ass if the jersey is in fact fake, or never worn by mj at all .... legally, if they were sued because someone discovered the card was not real they would not be liable in the second case..(due to the person that supplied it)
im not sure if this is with all players being produced from 05-06 onwards.. but it certainly makes people suspicious on "when will the MJ jerseys ever run out" come into effect a bit more..
what you guys think? am i just crazy?
