Paypal is very clever here....the rates they calculate on are about 1-2 cents better off in there favour.
Example.....I paid for a card when the AUD was 0.87 US cents.
The Paypal conversion was based 0.85 US cents.
The same thing happens when you change USD back to AUD its always about 2 cents difference....so if the AUD is 0.87 US they usually base it on 0.89 US....all about making money and covering costs including the wait for the money to be transferred which rakes in millions in interest for paypal.

I read somewhere that was basicaly because of the amount of money being handled by paypal compared to the banks, they couldnt match it as there's a higher volume of money being handled by baanks or some crap.... But the experience's Ive had wth both ebay and paypal your description Matt, sounds a lot more likely!
Paypal is ALWAYS under what the current exchange rate is! Very clever.. They pocket the difference but they will say they can't be in line with the exchange rate because it is so volatile.
I work in an industry where exchange rate is very important as some things are purchased in USD and that extra 2c, 3c adds up big time when you are talking large $$$.
Is anyone else feeling the pinch with the recent decline in the AUD???? It has just made our hobby about 10% more expensive when buying from the states...
