The first season was excellent - lighthearted, with the scifi unrealistic stuff consistent with the premise. The artifacts were clever (like Poe's pen and Plath's typewriter). The first couple of episodes of season 2 have been silly, with the artifact effects over the top rather than clever. I don't know if they changed writing team, used all the good ideas in the first season or are just having a bad spell. Of course, I could just be being too harsh.
I looked up some of the future episode reviews (don't try it unless you are okay with spoilers) and it looks like it gets better again. However, last season this was my favourite show and this season I'm not even sure it's worth watching.
