Anyone tried Upper Deck Epacks?

I can see why it's addictive...I bought a handful of packs. Not much out of Aliens except a couple of parallels that can be turned in for the real cards, unfortunately base in that set can't de "redeemed". Did better in the Joe Jusko MM though where all base is redeemable and I pulled a few inserts including a Speckle Holofoil and a Battle Spectra. Also pulled a sketch -

Thanks mate, yeah think I'll likely buy a few more... Fun mechanism. Does look like it might be a pretty easy way to build a set if you get into the trading. I might try for the Marvel base set and a few inserts of favorite characters. I have some cards from a case break coming as well coming so should be making a bit of progress.

Not sure about the Alien base not being transferable to real cards, that can mean you're spending on packs for zero return - but probably no worse than buying in SWCT I suppose, but with the chance of getting a good real card as well. And there does seem to be a bit of interest in the base as traders for those going for the parallel sets, so might be able to flip them for Marvel needs.

Will let you know if I get any interesting Black Panther's or Hela's.
 
Yeah, certainly an interesting process, alot of fun, good opportunity to trade, can be addictive, too easy to spend up if you have little control
I'm not into the Alien cards, interesting as you say that they are not transferable ? sounds odd

Agree that it's a very convenient way to spend money !

Have to think though that they're going to run out of the Marvel at some point ? With all cards numbered, they can't keep going forever like they probably can with Aliens...

And yeah, only Alien parallels and inserts are transferable, not the base. I can kind of understand it from a point of base cards being pretty worthless these days, but they should have some use besides just being upgraded to parallels as not all people will want to chase those (10 base can be converted to a red foil parallel) and might just want a base set...

Makes you wonder what other sets we'll see in Epacks.... and if the other companies will do similar. Not looking great for card pack/box sellers though...

I have been looking at and thinking of buying a case of Alien (also require the funds). Wanting to get some of the achievement cards so thinking the case would be the best way to go as the collation may be a bit better than random pack and box buying.

Although without trading on my rough calculations will need about 10 cases to get the orange foil which is a bit of a turn off.
4 cards per pack (as 1 card per pack is an insert I am using 4) x 20 packs a box x 12 boxes a case = 960 cards
960/10 = 96 (so a red foil set if collation is perfect). Given you need 10 red foils to make the orange foil set you have your 10 cases.

From what I have read it is a silver foil that comes in the packs the red and orange can only be obtained by combining cards are you able to confirm that at least in the packs you have bought you haven't found any red or orange foil cards.
 
Should also add another bit of a turn off at the moment is while the Alien set is 100 cards for some reason in epack it is only 96 even though they still number up to 100.

Cards missing on the checklist are 12, 45, 75, 77, 94 & 98.

I did send a message late last week asking if there was a reason as yet haven't heard back.
 
its super addictive and way too easy to spend money on...

Finding it difficult to trade as people want like for like instead of working out approximate value matches, I bought a few retail boxes so have some physical cards already so finding it a bit difficult to find people to trade with.

If your interested, my username is Xazark on the app, looking for base or gold sig versions (or orange/purple) - not keen on the what ifs or buy backs so feel free to send through a trade on those for similar value others.

That's a bit silly, wonder why they were left out ?? And you're right, only silver in the packs as far as I can tell....

I'm afraid the Alien set looks pretty weak, and unless you want to chase the parallel sets, the base are near worthless...I was stoked to pull the Ian Holm auto, but not sure I'll buy too many more packs of it to be honest. I didn't even realise he was Bilbo Baggins - just didn't make the connection!
 
omg spending wayyyyyy too much on these cards. On a side note, I have a heap to trade with now so should be able to put together a proper base set (excluding the high numbers)

I only need #59 and #75 to make a mixed base set, so if anyone has either a plain base or gold foil sig of either of those, I would love to trade, happy for you to take buyback, what ifs or base/gold foil sigs of similar value.

Yeah, it's an easy spend...went a few packs this morning. Alien was nothing good, pretty sure I'm done with them now. Marvel wasn't fantastic, but not too bad - couple of gold foils, a Legendary orange of Rocket Racoon /99 and Speckle Holofoil of Wolverine /99.

One thing I've noticed is that I'm getting very few (like nearly none) dupes in Marvel - not sure if it's by design or what ?

Also have to say that Joe Jusko's art in this set is pretty amazing...one of the reason these packs are so appealing and it looks great displayed on your "My Collection" screen...

Trading Alien base for Marvel needs if anyone wants them... User - AusRam
 
Spending way too much on this, but loving the art. And just when I feel guilty about the spend, I get something like this -

Deadpool Kaleidoscope Holofoil 24/25 - last one sold for $150 and a few on ebay at over $300!

I went a little crazy and bought a heap of the epacks and didn't hit anything of major value, ended up trading to get the last few cards I need for the set - just could NOT hit a beast #59 base - but have got a delivery coming now, 349 cards... cost $175AU to get them delivered, there was a cheaper option ~$30 cheaper, but it could of taken up to 2 months for delivery and I'm not taking the risk on them getting lost in the mail. The other option was to get them to COMC but from what I hear if you sell the item, they take 20% fee to cash out your money, plus if you sell it on ebay through them, they take another 20% and there is no way I was paying ~36% fee just for selling an item! Plus im going to keep a full base set (excluding 82-90) for myself, maybe even a full set of gold foil.

That means for the moment im done, did some quick calcs, and even with keeping the base set stuff I should be able to come out relatively even, maybe a little down overall assuming the prices remain similar
 
Yeah, the shipping seems to be a bit of a rort, and agree selling thru COMC seems expensive too. I'll probably get the best stuff shipped back soon to sell, the high value stuff and PC favorites, and then bring back the rest in dribs and drabs.

With the prices boxes are going for, I think you should be able to come out near even, providing you pull a few nice cards to sell. I like that you don't seem to pull many dupes, so can build up the set pretty quickly -except for those pesky high numbers...

And there are some guys chasing the Aliens exchange sets making crazy offers too. Thinking a Marvel base is worth 100 alien base etc...I'm not buying it. I had an offer for 30 alien base and all my parallel silvers for a single Marvel base, even that's too steep. Sure the aliens base don't have much value, but you're still paying $5 a pack for possibly 5 of them, and $15 for 3 marvels, so a fairer value is probably 5-10 Alien base for a single Marvel base in my eyes..

They need to get some more sets up otherwise interest is going drop off fairly quickly I think...

They started earlier in the year with just 2015-16 Series 1 hockey cards and have only now just introduced Alien and Marvel. I think they are still trying to just gauge the interest people have in getting cards via epack opposed to physical packs. Probably be a slow steady growth with the use of epack exclusives and achievement cards to attract collectors and hopefully build it.

I like the idea how you can combine base cards to foil up as nobody needs 10 sets of base cards. You see it with people buying boxes and cases primarily for the inserts and can't get rid of the base but just disappointing you can't get physical base cards as while you don't need 10 sets it would be nice to have 1.
