Select Supremacy Thread (now with Afterpay)

This series is shaping to be the best product Australian cards have produced.

Can't compare this stuff to NRL.

That's like comparing a Datsun 120Y to an Italia 488.

There's a reason Select let go of the NRL license, there is no money in it compared to AFL. From a financial perspective whether it's memberships, game attendance, sponsors, Television rights, National exposure, media exposure, fans....etc etc the list goes on and on AFL reigns supreme.

So by default that also extends to this series, how desirable it is, how many people will want it... etc etc

AFL is the premier sporting organization Australia wide so lets stop comparing this to what the other codes produce...mkay??

I'm also sick of hearing people have a sook about originality. Really?

Select had signatures in their product the first year they released in 1993, they had draft pick signatures in 1998. and had numbered cards since 1996. They did guernsey cards as far back as 2003. Triple signature in 1998.

Some of them are hand in hand with what the rest of the world was doing.

I liked 2012 draft prospects and supported it as much as i could, but it was hardly original.. Nickname sig, dual sigs, triple sigs, event worn guernseys...last time i checked they have all been done to death by the NBA long before David did them.

Now like i said i loved the product and supported it greatly but it was hardly the game changer some people make it out to be. As for Greats of the game i didn't collect or buy it because i didn't see value in the product. Cards were nicely made but Ashley Hansen is hardly an Eagles great and Glendinning and Malaxos were hardly either. I did like the Malthouse buy back and hope to track one down some day.

So lets stop comparing it to those products as well.

Supremacy and it's sales have reigned supreme on day one. I have spoken with a lot of heavy hitters in this industry and they have bought multiple cases of this product and are as excited as i am.

Thursday can't come quickly enough for me.

Oh and those who have bought big like me, hit me up with Eagles cards please.
60% sold already how much did you buy

Easy to say it's the best set when this set is tailor made towards the heavy hitters, so much so that they haven't bothered to fix Afterpay for the lower hitters who can't throw money at it in one hit.

The story seems to also keep changing, went from technical issues out of their control to issues with the website within their control but also partially Afterpays fault to Afterpay is really had to work with and they work real slow.

I talked to a mate who has dealt with Afterpay with his business, his opinion is the complete opposite to what has been said.

So from a heavy hitters perspective yeah sure might be amazing, from a person with limited funds it's demoralising when you can't get your hands on one single box yet people buy not just multiple cases but cases/ boxes for their children.

All fun and games for heavy hitters, fucking shit show for people on limited funds.

I'm sorry you haven't been able to buy a box yet.

But it's not out till thursday so i wouldn't stress just yet. I'm sure it will be resolved. If not there will be places you will be able to buy a box that's been unsearched i'm sure.

I'm not saying where as i do not advocate other places to buy on ozcardtrader nor do i know anywhere specific.

However they mentioned this release on the 18th of last month, that's nearly a month ago.

If they hadn't mentioned afterpay as an option which it wasn't prior what would you have done?

I am in the position to buy a box if I desire, but I rather the Afterpay option as I prefer to always have money on hand. I always work on worst case scenerio when it comes to my finances especially with a baby on the way. Afterpay mitigates my risks.

If they had not of mentioned it, I wouldn't of bought it plain and simple. In all honestly I would of be fine if they had not done so.

My problem is with the idea of dangling the option in front of people for months, only to pull it out at the point of pre-sale. It feels like a pure bait and switch to pressure people into using more traditional payment systems. Payment systems that also happen to benefit Select more.

If what they saying is true and it's all a back end issue, then it's pure incompetence given the time frame they had.

If it is some dodgy business practise to increase profit from not having to pay Afterpay margins, then it's just a dog act that's undercutting the customers.

"We have sold over half the stock in one day, quick get in before it's gone! By the way we need to money up front as the other system just happens to not work... Sorry for not mentioning it earlier"

I really like the set, would love to open my own box and hit amazing cards. But I'm also going to call out bad business practise when I see it.

I wouldnt be surprised to see some of the common cards sell for triple figures on ebay tomorrow. Just 90 common cards . Team collectors, full common set collectors and collectors of everything will be after them.

I still don't see it being worth $500 a box. I'm probably missing something (a brain lol) but seriously if each card is broken down in $$$ terms, what real value does a box have? TIA

Like any other product, it's a gamble. Some boxes will have cards worth less than $500 and others will have cards worth more, potentially a lot more. If you've seen the Treloar guernsey auto card numbered to /25 you'll know that that on its own is a $500+ card, for those lucky enough to hit one.

Supremacy is shaping up to be a great release!

I actually think the base card is one of the nicer looking cards and /90 is still limited.

Overall the cards are going to demand a premium, especially the big teams/cards.

Nice work Select, this is a massive step in the right direction and looking forward to it.

Enjoy the release everyone.
