Matt signs with Brisbane Roar

Re: Boy makes dad proud

Bloody pushy parents living their dreams thru their own kids LOL

Great sport choice though, no cash in basketball in this country at least.

All the best and you guys deserve a lot of the credit for the hours put in already.

Re: Boy makes dad proud

Top stuff, goalkeeping can be a nightmare but he looks a likely lad...must be very proud indeed. And that is one impressive bunch of facial hair for a 16 year old, what have you been feeding him!!!

Re: Boy makes dad proud

Just an update to his sporting path in life. An inhouse Roar interview has been posted on the Roar website. Atleast he gives answers that are better than "Yeah, its good".

But the pic... I don't remember him having a sore jaw. Atleast it proves it is not made of glass.

How'd I miss this thread?

Mick congrats to you and Matt mate, glad to see it all starting to pay off for you.

Re: Boy makes dad proud

WOW! Haven't seen this till now! What a great achievement! Any update?

Re: Boy makes dad proud

He is doing pretty good at present. Picked up an MVP point in the current round of the comp he is playing

So the update..
They got beat by Adelaide in the NYL (National Youth League) last year in the game to get into the final.

If you go thumbing through the sport section of you local newsagent you may find a mag called 'Australian Football Weekly' and it is the Grand Final edition. About 7 pages from the back they have a wrap on the NYL year. He makes the starting goalkeeper for the team of the year so to speak.

Currently..
He is the goal keeper for the QAS state team currently playing in the HQSL.

If you go to the web site QSL - Queensland State League - Our State of Play.. you will see what has been acheived by the team he is in. Just click on the Queensland Acadamy of Sport logo on the left hand side for match updates. Somewhere in the Multimedia section you can see highlights of a game he played against Logan United.

This weekends game is in Townsville. Back to his roots. We have only been in Bris for a couple of years now so we still know a fair few in the current Townsville team and they will let him know of any goal that goes in past him :)

Re: Boy makes dad proud

Update time..

Matt makes his TV debut tonight on Aurora TV on paytv. He opens the QLD segment of the Australian Football show which is on at 7.30pm. Once he does his bit they then show his latest game as the game covered for the week. Not sure when in the hour the QLD bit is but they spend about 10-12 mins on every state. I even make an appearance. See if anyone picks me out...

Re: Boy makes dad proud

Another update.

Matt got his professional football call up today.
Matt flew out today for Melbourne to be the bench keeper for the Roar. The game is telecast on Fox3 at 7.30pm Saturday. If only I had Fox...

Article from the Roar website..

------

Joining him on the pine will be Charlie Miller, also overcoming injury, and Roar Youth goalkeeper Matt Acton, who will take the place of flu-struck Griffin McMaster.

Farina said he had confidence in 17-year-old Acton to do the job if required.

“He played all of last year with the youth team,” he said. “He’s been playing in the QSL as well so, if called upon, he’s got to do the job.”

Brisbane Roar's match against Melbourne Victory kicks off at 7.30pm AEST tomorrow night at Etihad Stadium. The match will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 3.
