Greetings
Regular on the NRL threads so thought I would wonder over to the NFL section to ask some collecting questions. Big Parra fan and have decided to do a Hayne NFL PC if he makes it.
Jarryd hasn't even made the team yet but there is already a card been made for him. I know its not official.

I have had a bit of a google for NFL cards and there seem to be a least 50 different sets out there already for 2015. A bit overwhelming. Since I now think he will make it I have a few questions and would appreciate any assistance.

How do you people keep up with it all?
What are the best sites to keep abreast of all the product?
Is there a site that you can look up a certain player and it lists all their cards?
where or how is the best site/way to chase down cards?
anything a newbie should be aware of?
anything I should do to prepare myself?
feel free to add anything you think might be relevant.

THanks

Cardboard connection does checklists and reviews as well as other sites. There won't be an official card until he makes a roster officially I don't believe thus this company has made their own custom card. It would be interesting if he makes the roster if they do from hype or until he produces. Some products such as contenders (usually a late release has hig rookie volume autos). There are probably company's that you could get custom made cards done as well if these quickly sold.

If he makes it onto the 49ers final roster and gets a decent amount of game time, he may creep into a set or two near the end of the year otherwise he is likely to not be featured at all in a set.

I'd expect to see him in heaps of sets wether he makes it or not. He is high profile now, so the card companies will jump on the bandwagon, so they don't miss out. They do it every year. Look at Michael Sam and Taj Boyd last year. Neither made a roster, but there are thousands of autos of each about. Give it about a month, and his autos will be about.

Blowout card forums is a good place to keep up to date of releases/previews/discussions. Ebay will be your best place to chase down his cards, but a lot of sellers won't ship overseas these days. You might think of getting a COMC address, as that way you can purchase from anywhere, and they will ship to that U.S. Address for you. Check into COMC abit though, as there are fees associated with having this service. I use it a lot, but 95% of the cards I buy are from the states.

"Authentic" ones have been on eBay for over a week now. First ones were pulling stupid money. There are a couple of custom cards that have also been on eBay for a week. One has sold half of the 30 "limited print" run. $30 a hit is a nice little profit. I guess the bandwagon Aussies are cashed up :)

Yeah that is crazy. Keen to see how it looks this week with Bruce Ellington and a couple of others returning. Just to see the duties being split and hopefully some of the better players on the coverage units. He has impressed. Someone may take a crack at him if the 49ers dont

I haven't watched any of his games. Has he been playing against second string or third string teams?

the rushing hasnt been against first string. He was first choice punt returner against dallas. He is return it just like league (a clear advantage) as he can beat the gunner everytime. If a team can afford to carry him as a return specialist (and maybe a gunner on coverage as he should be able to tackle and kick chase from league) he could turn some games around with big return yards. I feel personally it will come down to roster depth and make up, or until he costs the team points or yards by playing punts he doesnt need to lol

I hope he plays against the Seahawks. Would love to see him take a hit from Kam Chancellor :D

pretty much. when i heard about it, i didnt give him any chance to make it, but after seeing him play he could make special teams.
hes too slow and weak, but maybe with the training he can carve out a spot for himself. either way, he impressed me alot more than i thought possible...

If by your reasoning of him been too slow, then there's not a chance he'll make it as a returner. He isn't too slow however(4.5 40), but I suspect his running style and the fact that he's still getting use to running in full uni, make it look like he is. I'm surprised how well he's reading his blocks and cutting late. It takes a while to trust those blockers, so for him to pick it up so early is impressive. I'd like to see him lower his pads and helmet a little and put a bit of hurt on someone towards the end of a run though. That'll come with experience. At the end of the day, hes's been suited up twice, so where he is at, is astonishing really. I think he'll get a roster spot on potential ( and probably a bit for marketing), but it may not be with the 49ers, but I think someone will give him a shot. I really thought at the start that he might have to do a year in nfl Europe, the cfl or maybe a semi professional league, but I don't think he'll need it.

A lot of teams carry basically a return specialist who may also happen to be the 4th choice RB or 5th/6th choice WR. Jacoby Jones last year for the Ravens for example who was pretty much a returner only and only caught 9 passes during the season. A couple others like Marc Mariani and Joshua Cribbs have basically made careers out of being a returner only. If he can help as a gunner also when the 49ers are punting with his tackling ability he could carve himself out a solid enough career.

I don't think he is too slow at all. Sure his straight line speed may not be the fastest (which is all the 40-time is), but as a returner his ability to make people miss and break tackles will be a lot more important.

Random fact for those that don't know, the reason teams started looking at 40-yard times is because that is what distance of the average punt (back when they first started with such a thing) and the idea behind this was that the average 40-yard punt had a hang time of 4.5 seconds, so that was a key time they were looking for defenders to be able to reach the punt returner the same time the ball was arriving.

wow. wouldve never thought that. must be like you said, and it just looks like he's molasses...seemed like he was getting run down too quickly.

hes certainly quick enough on his feet to avoid tackles, i was only referring to his straight line speed. and he'll need to put on some mass before he'll be breaking many tackles.

all in all tho, like i said in my first post, im suprised at well he's done so far and even a little optimistic about him sticking around...

Ha, sluggish and averaged 28 yards per punt return. No ones talking about Williams, cause he'll likely be looking for a new career in two weeks time

Cancer surviver padding up and playing in preseason is bigger news to me than a long time pro league player averaging 38 yards against practice squad players.
