Major Grand Final, Match 1

May-Z v Keatoboy

After winning the toss and batting, it wasn't the best of starts for May-Z when Victor Trumper stood on his stumps when he was on 27. Even worse, that ended up being the highest score of the innings, as Sydney Barnes tore through the top-order to end with figures of 4/35. Dale Steyn was also amongst the wickets with three as May-Z was limited to just 151.

AB de Villiers fell early in Keatoboy's reply but that brought Don Bradman to the crease. Wickets fell around him and at 4/73 they were in some strife. But Bradman put on two critical partnerships with Adam Voges (31) and Tony Greig (32) on his way to 108. This boosted the team's score to 245 all out, a lead of 94. George Lohmann demolished the lower-order to finish with 4/11.

In need of a large total to set Bradman and co. a big chase, wickets fell early again to hinder May-Z. Geoffrey Boycott and Clyde Walcott made 40 and 57 respectively but of the bottom six only Wilfred Rhodes scored more than 20, and the ultimate total of 216, leaving Keatoboy a chase of 123, seemed inadequate.

When de Villiers was dismissed cheaply again there was a glimmer of hope for May-Z, but Brian Lara and Bradman quickly extinguished it with an unbeaten 115-run stand to lock in a comfortable nine-wicket win and go 1-0 up in the Grand Final series.

May-Z 151 (Barnes 4/35) & 216 (Walcott 57, Barnes 3/43, Muralitharan 3/83) defeated by Keatoboy 245 (Bradman 108, Lohmann 4/11) & 1/124 (Lara 59*, Bradman 54*) by nine wickets.

Major Grand Final, Match 2

May-Z v Keatoboy

This time Keatoboy won the toss, and they too chose to bat first. Both openers were dismissed cheaply, and this time Don Bradman couldn't even save them. He was out for just 13 to George Lohmann, and when Virat Kohli and Ian Botham were out for just three runs between them, they were in strife at 5/49. Adam Voges and Tony Greig resurrected the innings the best they could, putting on 72 but after they got out the tail and collapsed and they ended with just 155 on the board. Lohmann and Fred Trueman each ended with four-wicket hauls.

After Victor Trumper was out for a duck in May-Z's first innings Geoffrey Boycott and George Headley stabilised the innings with a 96-run second-wicket partnership. But they ended as the only two batsmen to raise their bats as once they were out, the rest of the recognised batsmen couldn't capitalise on starts. Numbers four to seven in the order all made between 17 and 34 and then the tail made just 22 between them. Still, the total of 269 meant May-Z had a considerable first-innings lead of 114.

Keatoboy's batsmen knew they would have to perform well to stay in the match. de Villiers ended his run of poor form with a 51, but then Bradman was out for 8 meaning he had made just 21 runs for the match. It was time for other players to step up, and Brian Lara and Kohli were the players to do so. They shared a 192-run stand for the third wicket and both completed crucial centuries in the context of not just the match, but the entire tournament. But just when they seemed to have given Keatoboy control of the match, both fell in quick succession and then the rest of the order didn't contribute much. The final score of 380 - which would have been even higher had Lohmann not claimed seven scalps, including both centurions - meant May-Z needed 267 runs to take the series to a decider.

It was truly balanced on a knife's edge, and a cautious start took May-Z to 1/80. But three wickets fell for just 16 runs and all of a sudden they were behind the game at 4/96. Clyde Walcott put on partnerships worth just over 30 each with Mike Procter and Alan Knott, and at 5/162 the game was there for the taking. But once the sixth wicket fell, the floodgates opened and the last five wickets were taken for just 21 runs. Muttiah Muralitharan did the final-innings damage with 4/19, while Brian Lara was named man-of-the-match for his second-innings 142. And so Keatoboy took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series and was crowned the champion!

May-Z 269 (Headley 62, Boycott 50, Donald 4/61) & 183 (Muralitharan 4/19) defeated by Keatoboy 155 (Voges 52, Lohmann 4/25, Trueman 4/58) & 380 (Lara 142, Kohli 103, Lohmann 7/85) by 83 runs.

So we're (finally) all done and dusted. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for playing along, and especially your patience while waiting for the simulated tournament. I hope it was as interesting and enjoyable for you guys as it was for me. Next year if there's interest I'll look at getting an ODI version up and running, maybe to coincide with the World Cup.

Congratulations again to @Keatoboy :)

Thank you very much @Scotty_WCE. It was great fun picking the teams and then watching the action unfold.

As for @Keatoboy - the lad will have a head the size of a boarding house pudding after all this!!! That's all I'll bloody hear about (particularly as the Redbacks are rubbish again this season :) )

Wooo!! Brilliantly well done Scotty. Maybe we could do a BBL one!?
I'll have to check if the simulator can do T20s - I know it can do 50 over games as well as Tests but can't remember about T20s. But if it can and there's interest for it I'd be very keen :)
