1997-98 UD Michael Jordan Logoman - Fake ?

Agree on the trimming also! Another tough issue they need to figure out; variation in card dimensions. If all cards MUST be x by y mm upon leaving factory then they must be x by y mm when measured at grading location. Easier said than done if panini is allowing cut errors plus minus
It's not just panini that are being trimmed and altered though, it's every card ever produced. Some scumbag trimmed a $3 million Honus Wagner and PSA graded it without putting an altered/trimmed label on it. Fake Peyton Manning autos also got graded. There's a ton of examples in that link that redirects you to other examples. It's really disappointing/shocking and could significantly hurt the values of all cards, especially with emerging technologies which could make it even harder for grading companies to catch.

@waxmuseumpc on twitter who does the wax museum podcast (and others) put out on Twitter when they come across altered cards. Worth a follow and listen as collectors try to help each other on these issues.

Obviously this is another example that BGS should have caught. However, I'd like to distinguish an important aspect of this card from the 97-98 and 98-99 Upper Deck series. These cards were designed to hold a thick patch in the viewing window, so it's easier to pull a single colored patch out and replace it with a multicolored patch without damaging the viewing window. In the 97-98 and 98-99 cards, those cards were designed to hold thin jerseys, not thick patches, and the viewing window surrounding the jersey is much tighter. So to pull out a thin jersey and replace it with a thick NBA logo, it would be near impossible to do without damaging the viewing window. Therefore, I believe the extremely rare examples that have a thick patch or an NBA logo within the 97-98 and 98-99 Upper Deck cards, and have no damage to the viewing windows, those were manufactured with those swatches already in them. Although it's pretty much impossible to see from the photos, the logo actually partly goes into the card itself and it's not just the area that you see.

The interesting/sad thing is now this card is in auction on eBay and Probstein is displaying the fact that it has an altered patch, yet people seem to be bidding on it without caring, perhaps even bidding on it higher than the same card that doesn't have an altered patch.

Another similar card that they displayed has an altered patch sold for over 12k and is graded only 8.5, which is on par for similar cards that have an original authentic patch.

Half the reason why people send to PWCC now - they now they price will be higher, through shilled or other method, and eBay doesn’t care because of revenue generated
