Just wondering if anyone knows if fake PayPal payment receipts can be made up online?

I recently started a sale/trade a few weeks ago and the buyer from here sent me a PayPal receipt to say he paid, I trusted him as he had a positive feedback score of 4. I sent the cards before it cleared and still haven't received any payment, is it possible that this is a fake receipt?

I've tried to contact the buyer but every time I see him online and send a message he logs off and goes incognito, I've messaged admin to see what can be done and I understand that I made the error of sending the cards before the payment cleared, I've been doing this for a very long time so I guess complacency and trust was my downfall.

If nothing comes from this that's ok but sellers beware and make sure any payment clears before sending cards, even if you receive a screenshot of payment being made.

wouldn't be hard to do with the programs available,
Paypal, will I think send you a message when funds arrive in your account, don't think you have to set anything up...so if you don't get a message you haven't got funds received regardless to screen shots also be aware sometimes you can receive funds as an E cheque which means it hasn't cleared so you have to wait until cleared before sending item..

Should have received an email within minutes from PayPal.
Is there any discrepancy at all in the email address they sent the screenshot of?
Could be a legitimate typo, although I think it wouldn't be too difficult for someone to knock up a "screenshot"
I am someone who does almost always send one when I make payment but it's just as a courtesy to show that I'm not messing them about. Hopefully this is above board but maybe also contact PayPal in case there's anything they can do?
Good luck mate

Bank transfers can take a few days to clear. It gives a receipt at the time of "payment" but it is pending for a few days until the transaction goes through and is completed. Theoretically he could select bank transfer, send you the receipt then move all funds from the account so that it cannot clear.

its done through paypal so if it says it sent the money, theres no more waiting for the seller. any issues/delay with the bank will only effect the buyer's account. and if he makes payment, then empties his bank account, paypal will deduct it from his paypal funds leaving him with negative $$$, meaning he will owe paypal and not be able to use his account until its been paid off.

as mentioned above, an e-cheque can take several days to clear or the buyer couldve made an error in your e-mail address.
the easiest solution would be to just look at your paypal summary? that will tell you if anyone sent you money, you received any money or there was an issue with a transfer.
chances are its just a mistake, because not many people will try and scam you for $5...but yes. a fake paypal receipt would not be hard to make at all.

Yes, fake PayPal and bank transfer receipts are easily made online and are common.

As per above advice, irrespective of feedback etc, always check the relevant account before sending. Banks can take a day or two to show but PP, if the funds are held or not cleared should show straight away.

If you get a dodgy email or receipt from PP you can report it as follows; [email protected]

Usually a fake receipt will have some minute detail that sets it aside from the real thing.
