Just had a comc shipment arrive along with plenty of other cards to scan in so I thought I'd run through an all-defensive theme and see what I could come up with...

Start things off with some base, parallels and that sort of stuff....

Anthony Davis - 3 time All-Star but only the one ALl-Defensive Team Selection which made me raise an eyebrow (see what I did there?) because I though there'd be more...
Prizm

Dennis 'The Worm' Rodman - 2x DPOY and 8 x All Defensive Team Selections. The baddest of the bad boys, defense wins rings fellas!
UD Hologram

KCP - no defensive accoldaes yet, but you know this feisty competitor will have some coming his way in his career.
Black Gold

Give me an 'M', give me a 'K', give me a 'G', what does it spell? D-FENCE! THis guys has serious lock-down potential ad a frak athlete. No doubt some defensive accolades will be headed his way in the future.
Gold Standard /15

The Obligatory GU and soem higher end pieces of fabric

For a guy who has only ever racked up one season averaging double digits in points for his entire career you kind of realise how good his defense has to be to rack up 5 x All Defensive team selections.
TC Clear Cloth Red GU

Deandre Jordan - Made the last two All-Defensive teams and oen would think many more to come. Let's face it, he ain;t on the court for his "Hacka Deandre" offensive skills...
TC Clear Cloth Blue GU

Hakeem 'The Dream' OLajuwon was better nicknamed as the 'Nigerian Nightmare' imo. Back to back DPOYs and 9x all defensive team selections speak for themselves really....
Limited Curtain Call GU

When you talk about defense, you'd expect some sort of military representation so we've dragged out the Admiral! Won the 1992 DPOY award and 8 All Defense Team selectons. We salute this rim portecting beast!
UD Hologram

Crusade Quest GU

Select On Hallowed Ground GU

The other part of the Spurs twin towers was the Big Funadmental, Tim Duncan. ...and as ar as fundamentals go, defense reigns supreme! Never won any DPOYs but 15x All Defensive Team selections is pretty astounding!
Threads GU

Brilliance GU

I was surpirsed AK-47 only racked up 3 x All Defensive Team selections. I used to think this guy was the bomb, he had speed, length and athleticism to stick with all sorts of match ups.
Fleer Throwback Hardwood Jersey / Patch

RHJ - size, speed, strength, hops - this guy has serious lockdown abilities. If he can hone his jumper you're looking at an elite NBA prospect.
Excalibur Knight School patch - if there was ever a card to be done in balck and white - this Brooklyn Nets patch card would have to be it!

The scribble

Scrappy, cagey, hustling - a few words to describe Mr Toney Douglas. Gives it everything everytime he's out on the court. My type of guy, possible spot on my hypothetical expansion team.
Signatures auto

Bruce Bowen - NEVER averaged more than 10ppg although started for the Spurs for 8 years and in that time racked up 8 x All Defensive Team selections. The original 3 & D guy who paved the way for many others.
Intrigue Winning Ink auto

Tom 'Satch' Sanders, only the one All Defensive Team selection but walked away with 7 championship rings...and yes playing alongside Bill Russell for the bulk of your career helps your D look good!

Sidney Moncrief aka Sid the Squid. Won the first two DPOY awards back to back and went on to command 5x All Defensive Team Selections. Probably woudl have racked up another DPOY if the awards were offered a year or two earlier. Even MJ hated suiting up against Sid - kept him busy at all times on both ends of the court.

TT Timeless Signatures auto

Mark Eaton - 2 time DPOY, 5 time All Defensive Team selection. No. 1 for all time career average blocks and 5th overall for all time blocks. AVERAGED 5.6 blocks in one season - INSANE! ...and the kids of the NBA these days call theselves shotblockers! Not in Eaton's house!
GS Gold Records auto

AC Green - only the one All Defensive Team Selection, but a true hard hat, blue collar worker in the paint and a real life Iron Man who set the standard for others to follow.
Elite Black Box Flag Patch auto

Mookie Blaylock - an absolute ballhawk who lead the league in steals twice (11th in all time steals) and garnered 6 x All Defensive Team selections. It isn;t easy keping up with the jets and crossover kings of the NBA, so Mookie, we salute you!
SPA SOTT auto

Horace Grant - the BUlls never really had an enforcer of a Centre so a lot of the defensive intensity rested on Horace. Solid but not spectaclar, he racked up 4x ALl Defensive Team Selections.
TC auto

A real backbone of those down n dirty Knicks squads of the mid 90s. An emotional sparkplug who we all remember matching up on the biggest names in the eastern conference playoffs - MJ, Reggie etc. I used to always love the raw energy he brought to the court every single game. Ironically, only the one All Defensive Team selection.
Titanium Metallic Marks auto

Silhouettes GU / auto

The guy MJ rates as the best defensive player he ever came up against, the one and only Joe Dumars. As part of those Bad Boy squads he racked up 5 x All Defensive Team Selections.
Crusade Sultans of Springfield auto

TC Certified Competitor auto

Chauncey Billups - a long distinguished career defined by his clutch performances, but only ever two All-Defense team selections...
Flawless Transitions auto

Known as the C's frontcourt stopper throughout the Bird era - Kevin McHale racked up 6x All defensive Team selections. Real long monkey arms made him a challenging guy to matchup against.
NT GU

Select On Hallowed Ground GU

Spectra Marks Memorabilia

Chris Paul has racked up 8x All Defensive Team Selections which kinda surprised me because I just didn't think he was that good on that end of the court....

Well that's all for now. Nothing huge, but it has been a little quiet around here lately! As always, thanks for stopping by - likes and comments are always most appreciated.

Cheers
Skip!

Classic stuff, so many legends of the game in this mailday.

Scrubs don't make the All-Defensive team dude! ...but neither did Nique?! lol, just kidding mate!

Awesome as ever Skip, tell you what, DRob should have been arrested for rocking those guns in public!

I think you'll find they're special Navy issued anti-aircraft guns...quite handy for shooting down the high flyers of the NBA!

Love the Chauncey Billups flawless, blue jersey and Auto on white background with gold
Nice!

...you might say it's....................flawless!

Great cards and intriguing reading as always. DEFENCE!

If you're good on the good defensive end you can always survive a bad shooting night. If you'e bad on the defensive end to begin with...welll.....

Awesome idea for a mailday skip. That Blaylock card really speaks to me!

Yours if you want it mate, so long as the price is right! I actually picked up a card the other day that you might respect! ;)

Quality post mate. Looks like you had a pretty big COMC shipment!

But where is Mt. Mutombo?

But where is Mt. Mutombo?

I acquire cards then think of a uniting theme, not buy cards with a theme in mind. I'm just not that organised! lol Mutombo woudl have indeed been a welcome addition. 6x All Defensive Team selections in case you were wondering - surprisingly low imo!

As soon as I read "All Defensive" I knew this was going to be an interesting thread! Great cards! Love the history lessons!

No Birdman or Zo this time around mate, but rest assured if I find myself a Zo bargain it's gonna be featured! always good to brush up on some b-ball history!

Man I have missed your mailday posts, a good enough sole reason to jump back on the forum ;)

That Mookie SP is awesome and so is the Eaton! Truly underappreciated is Mr Eaton!

Your appreciation for cards is so refreshing mate, you show that it doesn't need to be a 1/1 patch auto die-cut hologram refractor to be awesome :)

Good to see you back man! I wrote it to entice you back on the forums! If Dikembe was Mt Mutombo then Eaton should be Mt Everest! ...and as for Mookie, definitely the people's champion!

As I always say "EVERY card has a story", if you can appreciate that then all's good!
