The Australian cricket non-official thread!

Look what it has done to the Matador Cup.

B grade sides in Australia ODI line up = B grade comp back in Australia.

Look at the scores, the batsmen are having a field day. Cam White 145 yesterday along with several others already getting 100's.

Last year we had full strength teams battling it out & it was great. This year we are missing a tonne of top players due to injury, resting, and this mickey mouse tour in SA.

I am really enjoying the Matador Cup coverage on GEM, particularly with the internationals/big guns involved in the tournament. It's cricket at a less commercial, win-at-all-costs, bully-boy level. The Grill on the Hill is the greatest thing ever!! :)

On a more sombre note, I was saddened by the Philip Hughes inquest/accusation/blame game during last week. Having worked at a few family-owned businesses, I have come to the conclusion that a good investigation will find a reason, whilst a bad one will find a scapegoat. When comments, tactics or actions on the sporting field are presented without context in a very formal, accusing manner, there'd barely be a top-level cricketer in Australia who would emerge with their integrity intact. The character assassinations of individuals has been disgusting and unedifying.

Agreed Matt i am loving being able to watch the Matador Cup and even the commentators are not giving me the shits too much lol. The slower, spinnier type pitches seem to be a slight struggle which kinda sums up our batsman at international level

Took this from Aussie cricket scores & news facebook page:

South Australia has set a new limited overs record in their Matador Cup match against the Cricket Australia XI at Hurstville Oval in Sydney. Batting first, the Redbacks absolutely butchered the CA XI bowlers to post a mammoth score of 7/420 in their 50 overs, the highest ever 50-over score in Australian history. Centuries to Callum Ferguson (154 off 113) and Jake Weatherald (141 off 104) were the backbone of the innings, while 24 runs off the 49th over from Alex Gregory (42* off 24) helped push SA over the magic 400-run barrier. Incredible stuff.

Ladies and gentlemen!!

This took me a little while to put together but I hope you'll agree that it is a fun and worthwhile cause, given what's around the corner :)

Thank goodness it's not a drinking game though, otherwise we'd be "Brahms and Liszt" by lunch on day one!!

Enjoy!

Lol - tipping bingo during the first test

Nathan Lyon GOATing it up - 10-3-10-4 at North Sydney Oval in today's Matador Cup final. Shades of "Deadly" Derek Underwood in the old Benson and Hedges Cup county matches in the 1970's!!

Let's hope it a sign of things to come this summer. For mine, Australia needs to select players it can rely on - with the bat, with the ball and in the field. Dependable players like Siddle, Lyon and Voges will be integral this season.

They call him the GOAT for a reason!! But I agree that reliable players are what we need this summer. Finally someone who also thinks Peter Siddle is still one Australia's best. People discount him because he isn't as fast, but you don't always need sheer pace to get wickets.

There's a great Test going on between Bangladesh and England at the moment. At stumps on Day 4, Bangladesh need 33 runs to win, and England need two wickets. Going to be a cracking finish!

James was asked to comment today, and simply replied: :)

I wonder if this is part one of a decision to leave the Nine network, according to the article you posted @Keatoboy? I actually don't mind JB, he is really funny on Triple M I reckon.
Yes it seems it could be one of a few decisions in a move to perhaps Foxtel to work with their footy team.

I've always thought JB brings a bit of a younger, exciting element to the comm. box. But I guess not anymore.

The 12-man squad for next week's first Test has been announced:

Warner
S Marsh
Khawaja
Smith
Voges
M Marsh
Nevill
Starc
Siddle
Hazlewood
Mennie
Lyon

With Mennie likely to be the one to miss out, no major surprises.

Would have liked to see Henriques given a go ahead of Mitchell Marsh.

Burns also unlucky not to get in with his hundred in the shield game. Good replacement if any injuries in the series.
