Another bit of positive news for the eels, we have extended the stay of Brad takairangi until the end of 2019.

Shows the confidence the players have in Brad Arthur as a coach taking them forward

Amazing season by Croker. If he gets 10 points tomorrow he outscores Newcastle for the season.

If this season doesn't earn him a four nations spot than I am on England... ( & Papa)

I like Croker a lot and he has been in my starting SuperCoach team for as long as I can remember however I don't think he is in the best two centres in Australia maybe a squad position as reward for another good season but doubt he would debut.

Papa looked busted last night and didn't seem to have his usual impact, if he's not injured he will be in there somewhere I'd reckon.

Cheers

Agree with you Ross, what is the go with that Blake Austin Every time I have seen him play he does some fake acting scene.
As well is he scared of actually taking the line on, he was last night.

I was thinking a squad spot also but based on form I believe (bias) that he is now in the top echelon of centers. His attacking stats are second to none and in past seasons his defence, particularly his reads were questionable but now he is the top Centre in the comp for effective one on one tackles and the Canberra left edge is no longer the 'weak' edge.

Let's not forget he had poor old Campo on half a leg defending inside of him for years, if that doesn't put your reads out nothing will.

I think it is time to get back to rewarding players on form for rep selection and on top of his form he is just an all round decent bloke and great role model. Even Bennett rates him as one of the best defensive centers in the comp.

Papa should make the 17 easily provided he is fit. With Gillett out he might go close to starting. He was a bit busted last night but still ran for 170 odd meters, multiple offloads and tackle breaks and 30 odd tackles.

Leilua will also go close to a four nations spot. Great talent but can be ill disciplined

You do realize he still has 16 pins holding two of his hand bones together right?

He wasn't as dynamic in taking on the line last night but I thought his ball play was great.

Every player stays down these days and in fairness he did cop one across the chops

Brendan, I sort of agree with you, on the other hand he should not of even been playing.
He is one of the biggest grubs for staying down, even his own team mates were telling him to get up, I would not of called that a smack in chops, it was more across the top of the shoulder then the neck.

I think even carrying that injury he offered a bit more than Sam Williams. Sammy is more of an organizer where as Austin has the ability to produce the 'x' factor.

I don't agree with players staying but I can't say I have noticed Austin to be a serial offender and labellung him as a grub is a bit harsh. I didn't think it deserved a penalty but contact was high and was from a big back rower so maybe it did stub him?

Austin is one of the few 5/8 's who still takes on the line at speed and he does cop plenty of whacks on and off the ball

Think it will be hard to get his contract registered by the NRL.

If it does happen I think it will be more a depth signing to cover Takairangi and Jennings

Paul Vaughan to St George Raiders for 2018.

Really disappointing to hear this one if it is true, really good local player with plenty of talent.

I suppose this is the price you pay for having too much depth.

I think that Canberra should just buy the Dragons and have them as our NSW CUP feeder club...

Yep the Cutters are a better team than the Mounties.....as proven on the weekend. ;)

I heard Vaughan was pushed out of the club because if he played any more first grade it would have activated a clause in his contract that would have substantially increased his base salary. Apparently this is also the reason he missed selection in the team so much through the season.

The question is though can he play half back?

Cheers

Some news from Penrith - Zak Hardaker is back in the UK SL as he had a transfer fee of some huge amount (300K?) if anyone in Australia wanted to sign him and also Suaia Matagi will also leave the club.

Tim Browne has been signed as depth at the prop position which is weird as we already have quite a few props and Tamou incoming.

Yep with Tamou in your squad you'll need back up.

Hey Matt26, what about the Panthers lower grader who signed with the Rugby Championship side Sydney ?, Sofoponga or something similar, a big loss to League, or not?

Tupou Sopoaga.......yep played 5 x 1st grade games then left for Rugby.

The thing is there is so much talent coming through at the moment its hard to keep them all.
