Less than 100 days until the season kicks off on 7 October, so might as well get a new thread happening for the upcoming release.

This was posted on the Tap 'n' Play facebook page on 27 June 2016. (Note: the Bolding is mine)

"Design work is well underway for both the FFA and Cricket Australia upcoming sets. The FFA release is currently due late October and the CA series early November - dates will be confirmed soon! We will be offering sneak peaks as some of the templates are approved… Stay close!"

We also know from one of @Matt26 earlier post in relation to a signature set, the following news:

....
FYI - Been told to expect a similar amount of signatures next release - 1 per team (lower numbered though) and potentially another 1 or 2 game used cards.

If you hear any more news on the release please share, otherwise just keep your eyes peeled on the TnP Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/tapnplay/

Getting excited! :kick:

Wondering if there will be any technology/digital related aspects to this release?

I did hear a little bit of info that TNP have engaged a very well known designer to do some artwork for this release!

Recent update on the TnP Facebook page....

"HUGE news with Tim Cahill signing with Melbourne City this morning.

Just in time for inclusion in this year's HAL/FFA Trading Card series - No doubt his presence will be a huge boost to the A-League this coming season!"

Gonna make for a pretty exciting release...

I was sent this by Neil at Tap N Play today:

The Football set this year has gone to a new level with great designs from the NBA Award Winning designer Tyson Beck, more signatures and two patch cards.

More information will be released over the coming months, but a “taster” is attached. The set will hit the shelves Nov 7 but will be available earlier for Trade Buyers.

Price remains at $3.99 per pack with 36 packs per Retail Box (change from last year).

Thanks @Matt26 for the share =D>

Another BIG release with 200 base cards (same as last season) plus silver & gold parallels. Some nice designs on show. The "foil" nature of these parallels will be interesting to see.

With 10 signature cards this year assuming it will only be players from the a-league teams this year (i.e. No Socceroos or Matildas).

Of course we can only hope that the "legend" Socceroos jersey card features that classic 1990s jersey

Will be interested to see how the 42 "SPECIALS" are configured, although the "taster" image includes an "international a-league stars" reference on a card - so a clue there (?). Although the design on show for that card does look a little plain in comparison with the others.

The generic stadium image used in the base card design looks like the MCG (?), but would have been nice to see the image of each team's home ground used, or maybe a rectangular stadium - but now I'm just being picky! :cautious:

Ratios in packs will be intersted to see - assume the same as last season.

Roll on November!! :kick:

The silvers and golds may be even more difficult to track down this season, particularly with such a large set again. I think it was a 500 case run last season, but now it's down to 450 cases.

So that is likely to bring the number of available cards of those type down. Last season it was something like a total of 450 silvers & 230 Golds of each player (base card) being available.

Attempting a master set of all cards will have its challenges.

Firstly based on the flyer design looks fantastic. It maybe the best designed "Soccer" cards ever produced for Australia.
Like Serge and Mike I am not overly keen on the Gold and Silver Parrallels. 450 cards is a lot I would much rather have a smaller number of cards with more limited editions.
Having said that cant wait for November!

Based on the last numbers I had heard for this year, its about 200 per Gold Parallel and about 475 each for the Silvers.

One thing to keep in mind, The A-League release last year struggled a bit due to the very late release (due to the players association negotiations) where the product was basically put on hold until that was finalised.

So I believe TNP missed out on about 6-8 weeks of sales which impacted profitability of the set.

I would expect this years release to be similar in content with some improvements plus a good line up of signature players.

Cheers
Matt

thanks @Matt26 for clarifying the number of silvers & golds for this upcoming release & those observations.

Of course with any card releases there may always be differing views - what the FFA are wanting, what makes business sense for TnP, and what the punters (including trade buyers) think/want.

A quality release will attract the punters, but at the end of the day they will vote with their wallets.
A Tim Cahill signature card would really get those wallets open :woot:

There has been much banter about the silver/gold parallel cards, but as we know the cost issues will mean they will be the same player image across those cards (unless things have changed on that front) but I do hope they have progressed a bit further than just silver & gold borders & the "foil" reference means something like the Topps Match Attax approach (or better!). But no doubt all will be revealed in due course.

Just another query - with the slightly reduced cases, do you know if it will still be the same distribution outlets as last season, or will those outlets be scaled back a bit? Or is that still yet to be finalised?

Thanks @Matt26 for this info. Looks like a good quality release, although it will be tough to complete the gold parallels.

It looks like a fairly straight forward release & not likely to create as much kerfuffle as the upcoming TnP cricket release with its silver/gold jersey cards.

Two signings unveiled on TnP Facebook page...

Kosta Barbarouses from Wellington Phoenix FC and Roy O'Donovan Central Coast Mariners.

Also a comment that the full checklist will be released early October.

Love the design of the signature cards. Hoping (probably a long shot) that the Socceroos card is Milligan.

David Carney revealed as the Sydney Signature card from the case pre order form I was just sent.

I'm not so sure on the design of the cards shown so far. The more I look at the base cards the more I dislike them with the near sketch style image they use, also a lot of wasted space I feel on the card using the lower third of the card for the team logo and player name. The signature cards are really nice as is the International A-League Stars card. Midfield Magicians is alright player image is a bit better than the base card but like the base card again feels like a bit of wasted space don't know if they need such large letters to write Midfield Magicians.
