Thats a good idea i remember a jersey card of a baseballer who was a pitcher and use to chew tobacco there was a stain on that particular jersey and it was cut up in to jersey cards people went mad for a piece of that jersey that had the stain on it.

I want to spice up this debate and apologise to Matt if he feels I'm hijacking this thread. There appears to be an overwhelming majority (including myself) who object to cutting up a piece of league history and see it as desecration of our game. However, I think Matt should run a concurrent thread headlining "Would you buy a historic game worn jersey card for your PC?". I anticipate that there would be an overwhelming majority in favour of adding a card of this calibre to one's PC. There wouldn't be many who would refain on principle. What Parra supporter wouldn't want a piece of Hindy's 300th game, Ben Elias' origin blood or part of the jersey of a Churchill medalist.
We all agree that from a business persepctive there would prob be a decent margin for this product so why wouldn't it be considered. Hypothetically, if ESP were watching this thread or were the driving force behing it, I for one would consider this forward thinking. Is it just me or isn't this what collectors have been screaming out for in the last few years? Something new (and possibly controversial)
Food for thought.

If the Harragon 1997 grand final jersey card I mentioned earlier was actually produced, I'd hunt it down like a mofo, probably take out a second mortgage to buy as many as possible!

I can 100% tell you that ESP arent driving this.

Would I like to game jersey cards from current players, you bet especially as they were multiple versions in a year (even a game)......but to have a historical jersey like a grand final jersey from the 70's etc, id say no to it.

Cheers
Matt

When you look at some of those Booklet cards in Playbook or other similar release, having a card like that would be amazing, a large piece of the jersey on oneside a nice action picture of the player and a awesome oncard signature on the other side, what collector wouldnt want that, but at the expense of an old school jersey, i would hate to see one butchered, but what if they came across one that was in such a bad state its pretty much patches anyway. surely turning into a card would preserve that history a little longer.

Modern Player Patch/jersey cards would be something i would like to see included more often in collection i am a big fan of movie costume cards. imagine a State of origin Captains Call Booklet Smith/Gallen Maroon one side Blue the other piece of Jersey and an Autograph.. ahh i can dream.

This is the thing that really grinds my gears, and I'll preface this by saying that ESP listens to us mere collectors more than any of the other companies but it won't be that hard to get jersey cards into products.

The issue is that these companies don't think like us collectors.....they think like business people making a product.

I personally submitted a financial proposal to ESP that would have made game worn jersey cards a reality. Sure there were up front costs but let me say they were going to make a fairly decent profit on them.

Got told that while the proposal stacked up, they just weren't going to do it.

It's all about the initiative, do you want to do the bare minimum or do you want to really strive to give collectors something they really want.

Cheers

I think it is great that they listen but i also understand they think of it as a business rather then satisfy collectors every whim as i imagine the secondary market would benefit more from cards of this nature then esp would, but im mostly a Cronulla Collector (tragic i know) but if the opportunity came along to own an Authenticated John Sattler sig/jersey or a cam smith captains trio jersey card (Storm/QLD/Aust - that would be an awesome card by the way) i would try to get them for my own personal collection.

i liked elite this year but i think for years now as a collector i have really been looking for that "something different" not just base, parallels and Signatures!!

Its got to be better than offering up the same old shit parallel cards year after year, and the same format of cards year after year, in order of teams, ie.
brisbane, bulldogs, canberra, etc.
It is the same format as Select used and its getting bloody boring and mundane, AND i AM GETTING PISSED OFF, after all we are expected to pay good money for these cards set after set.
For christ sake do something different, like scanlens did, the team that won the priemership are the first team in the set all the way down the list to the wooden spoon.
Your parallel set the top 6 players of the team, plus some reserves.
then your insert cards.

As you say Matt, they ( esp) have a 5 year contact with the NRL, IN THAT TIME THEY WILL ENDEAVOUR TO GET AS MANY nrl PLAYERS ON CONTRACTS AS THEY CAN, BECAUSE THATS WHAT THERE GOAL IS.
THIS CARD BUSINESS IS JUST A SHOP FACE FOR THEM.

I find it rather quizzical that ESP's business like approach would preclude them from investigating a proposal that "stacked up". Surely by now they are aware that producing products that collectors want = increased sales & profit. They must produce jersey cards, it's a natural progression that the market requires. Don't get too concerned about rare and famous, just get some jerseys chopped up and make some cards. Game worn (any game gets most jerseys grass stained and dirty) or just go and buy one from Peter Wynn's.

It is heartening to know that a lot of members here are all for jersey cards, not necessarily Legends personal items, but jersey cards in general.

As i had previously stated, i believe this concept is just around the corner, it is merely researching the market wants and needs, then the financials.

All Hypothetical as Matt stated, but nearing a product IMO.

Historic jerseys? No.

Normal game worn? Yeah! Hell I'd donate a game worn tariq sims to ESP to cut up if it meant there'd be a cowboys Jersey card available. Hell... I'd donate half my player worns if it meant there'd be a possibility of more "rare" cowboys cards for the collection!

so what is historic?
What if it was a state of origin jersey from recent years?

recently you may have seen Hawthorn auctioned off it's guernseys from the AFL grand final (the wore 2 - 1 for auction in 1 half and 1 for the player in the other half) - what if select bought them and put them into cards? Is that a historic jersey?

No as you said they wore 2, "back in the day" commercialism etc was not that big, so those jersey's from the past would be hard to come by, in this day and age with marketing etc, there is scope to do that stuff, just look at how many people own team jersey's from this century, going back to get a players jersey was extremely hard, now you can purchase them via club auctions etc, there is no need to cut up piece's of our games history...
